Pony,
Those pictures are lovely.  The SL scenes / building capability is really awesome.  There are only 2 things that are missing in SL -
a) Camera view - focusses on the back of the avatar rather than the front like Lively
b) Our lively avatars and animations ofcourse :)

If only we could fix these two....

~Kos

well nothing to do about the avatars it seems - but for the camera view there's an easy solution. You just keep the alt key down and you can turn around your ava - i see my avas face most of the time!!

Hello Kosmik

we have to invite you to a nice tutorial in the camera-use on Second Life. For preparing to it visit "The Caledonian University of Oxbridge" on Second Life. There you can truly learn step by step especially move your camera view.

In fact! there is one difference to Lively: in Lively you could move your avy face to you like "coming to you", on the SL you look on the back over the shoulder while walking or running.

Cool, I didn't know that about the alt key, Laura. Also, there are
quite a few alternate viewers for Second Life aside from the default
one you get when you install SL. Personally I haven't tried any of
them but I know other Livelyzens have and are pleased with unique
features these viewers have. Perhaps some of these alternate viewers
offer different camera views?

Great pics, Pony, that sure does look like the Lively space room! I
think its hard to create realistic looking rocks in Second Life, this
person did a great job with them!

This is exactly my problem with SL - i dont like the looking over back/shoulder while walking/running.  (besides the awful robotic avatars + animations).

If you know of any alternate viewer that solves this camera issue, please let me know.  Thanks!

Dear Kosmik

how about use "Mouse Look mode" ?
when you press "M" key , The screen will be transformed into first-person mode

In facts , When I at Second Life building or shopping
Most of the time , I just hold the "ATL" key and Mouse click everywhere to move my Camera
Also , you can press "ALT+CTRL" key to move the camera up or down.
so I don't need to move my Avatar , I can watch the entire region.
you can try :)

Pony.

Pony, Mouselook is like gaming mode where you see the virtual world with the avatar's eyes.  What I want is to see my avatar's front profile  - while walking, running, sitting etc.  (like Lively)

Hello Kosmik

while walking or running your avy on the Second Life you will meet the limited creativity like on really all these 3-D-chat-platform except VIVATY (test this! you will be surprised how much there is of Lively animations management). While sitting you can do the way of that Pony just suggested to have a close view around and to the front of the avy.

Lively was unique in moving and running the avatars. I think that it was thought about to use them all as an extended IMVU-like avatar. This at the beginning of the planned use, where the avy should perhaps "play" a reluctant role as a free movable stand-by avy created the perhaps absolutely unique avatar in the whole 3-D-verse.

I tried a lot of 3-D-systems in the service of "Noah`s Ark Project", they were 58 popped ups, only 26 running and only 8 really online.

Today you cannot count them all, they popped out like the flue.

Try the Second Life, Kosmik, try the camera view carefully, do experiments....

Hmm, i do find this whole discussion very interesting.
In 'RL' we NEVER see ourselves from the front coming toward ourselves
so i think maybe the camera is set up as first person
to emulate our usual way of seeing the world,
like Pony does in mouselook .
i do use alt. key, or the camera controls at the top of the screen (go
to 'view', click 'camera controls')
to swing around to take photos,
but mostly i'm looking at the other players.

..while thinking about the difference to the avatars of Lively and these of all other systems, including the NewLively-ones, I`m thinking about this what the Lively avys made so unique.

And today I know why: its that special view while running them, this view towards the facial side, this from the side, this from high above and this jumping so far away from you while following in a slower modus, so that you thought of being in a dream and moving slowly above this small world you were in. Its perhaps this view of these creators who are able to put you in the view of "Arthur and the Minimoys", "Snowhite" and "Alice in wonderland".........

I never found this feeling in another 3-D-verse...............

Amazing job in SL. Awsome. This remind me when I was talking with
Izzie Bellah vel Mrs Foxyy in her room like this one... One of the
best moments in my life. Maybe it sounds funny, but sometimes internal
life and thinks in mind are more important than real life. This is,
what Lively was - metaverse, metaphysical world for me.

Welcome back Lively !!!!

do you all remember? Thats the Lively viewer we used til shut-down in our nice worlds. As i thought in the past that the viewer is to create better and leave away useless and double ways and useless/unnerving announcements I thought the new SL viewer would obey better handling. I`m now astonished that the Linden Labs are stepping back in redesigning and filling the bars above and below the screen with "thick" information panels. I would rather see a nice and fortunately development of the "Emerald Viewer" which I think is better than all we used yet as a client to the 3-D worlds of SL.

Well, I try the new viewer.
