I spoke to Jeff last week about starting a hashtag chat for SMCampLI
and wanted to get an idea if there was any interest. Since the big
event ended last month, the #SMCampLI hashtag has lived on and kept
the conversation going. Its a sign that the event was powerful,
created connections and fostered great conversations. We shouldn't let
that quiet down.

In the past month or so I've been participating in a number of Twitter
chats and I think a weekly chat dedicated to Social Media on Long
Island would be an opportunity for all of us to learn and show thought
leadership.

So How Does It Work?

Every week we'll schedule a moderator for the chat who will ask a
series of 6-10 questions on Twitter that revolve around one topic of
their choice. Questions could be related to business, networking,
promotion, marketing, public relations or other topics, but all topics
should tie back to Long Island as well at some point in the
conversation.

The moderator will post a question that includes the #SMCampLI hastag:
"Q1. How does this Twitter chat work? #SMCampLI"

Then the other participants weight in their opinions:
"A1. You just follow the hashtag to get all the related conversation.
#smcampli"

If you like what someone else said, feel free to reply or retweet
their answer. In cases where you disagree, state your point in a
reply, but always include the #SMCampLI hashtag.

Who will be moderating the chats?

We hope to take the knowledge and curiosities of all of us and turn
them into educational discussions. If you are would be interested in
being a moderator, please contact me at nat...@nathanrking.com or DM
me on Twitter: @NathanRKing

When does it take place?

Since all of our schedules are different, the moderator will choose
the time/date of the chat each week. Make sure you are following
@SMCampLI to be reminded of the next chat.

Great idea! I believe that the #EventCampNYC planners/group did the same thing.

I love the idea and have continued following the #smcampli as well.

You can also create a column in HootSuite for #SMCampLI as well as TweetDeck.
