The best of the lot was certainly the orphaned "KDX" which encrypted
file transfers, was truly "cross-platform", included chat and
messaging, etc. etc.
I strongly suggest that the developer of Little Shoot take a long hard
look at KDX, which still runs under WindoZe and less-than-recent
versions of Mac OS X
I have just installed nL.S. but I am finding that file transfer speeds
are glacial on my otherwise fast net connection.
Is there an alternate port configuration or any ideas about why my
download speeds are so dramatically disappointing ?
As far as speed goes, the current LittleShoot deployment relies on the
number and speed of peers. If there aren't that many peers for a file,
speeds will likely be slow.
The next iteration of LittleShoot will emphasize file publishing,
however, with all files backed up centrally. This will mean
LittleShoot files will always be transferred at the speed of the
centralized host at a bare minimum. When there are more peers,
transfers will get faster, of course taking advantage of things like
peers on your local subnet to transfer at local network speeds if
possible.
Are you seeing slow transfers even when there are a lot of peers?

l'm an old school user of Adam Hinkley's KDX. It has been a dead project for a while. Several months ago he was attempting to get investors for Haxial (discussion on mailing list). Anyway, been enjoying littleshoot and look forward to publishing features.

LittleShoot should be super fast in most cases now, but the
architectural shift to include centralized copies of every file in
every swarm should catapult that a fair bit. Been slow going in
LittleShoot land of late, but it should be picking up shortly!
All the Best,
-Adam
