Hi all,

Back in June, Markus made a request for LittleChef inclusion in
Debian: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=630969

Sadly, there is already a Debian package with that name and
executable:
http://miller.emu.id.au/pmiller/software/cook/download.html

Even though it only had two minor releases in the last 3 years, it is
a much older package and thus has preference. If we want LittleChef to
be in Debian (and Ubuntu) we need to think about another name for the
cook executable. There are many other great names out there, but the
problem I see with them is that they will never be as semantic as
typing "cook node:...". And "bake" is taken as well. Interestingly,
both are "make" replacements...

So what names can you think of?

Here are some synonyms for starters:
Main Entry: cook
Part of Speech: verb
Definition: prepare food, usually using heat
Synonyms: French fry, bake, barbecue, blanch, boil, braise, brew,
broil, brown, burn, coddle, curry, decoct, deep fry, devil, doctor*,
escallop, fix, fricassee, fry, griddle, grill, heat, imbue, melt,
microwave, mull, nuke, panfry, parboil, parch, percolate, poach,
pressure-cook, reduce, roast, ruin*, sauté, scald, scorch, sear,
seethe, simmer, sizzle, spoil*, steam, steep, stew, toast, warm up

And no, I don't think "nuke" would make for a semantically good
executable name ;-)

I'd be quite sure there's already a "make" replacement named "[^m]ake"...

@Steffen: yeah. As I said, there is already a bake ;-)

A pity because that was the most "drop-in" replacement

whip or beat are valid verbs as well. Ok, and grill, but grilling your
servers may sound a bit extreme ;-)

The list of destructive synonyms is amazing: nuke, ruin, spoil, toast, melt, fry

My favorite is "ruin". It is just hilarious to think of typing "ruin node" ;-)

So to close this matter.

A list of "valid" synonyms: grill, boil, brew, fix

Actually, "fix" is quite nice, feels quite positive and meaningful to
"fix" a node. Surprising that it is not yet taken!

If no one is against it, I think that would be the best candidate.

Cheers,
Miquel
