Good Will to Men (Columbia Pictures 1955)

A group of young mice is in the ruins of a church, practicing singing for an upcoming service. After singing an adulterated version of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," the mice wonder about the last line, "Good will to men." One of them asks the chorus master, an old mouse, "What are men?" The old mouse explains that they all killed each other off by building bigger and more destructive weapons, first guns, then missiles, then bombs.

The New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics is seeking volunteers to serve on District Fee Arbitration and District Ethics Committees throughout the state. Both attorneys and non-attorneys are eligible to serve. Applications are due by Friday, May 1, 2026.

    Why volunteer?

These committees are essential to maintaining public trust in the legal profession. Fee disputes and ethics matters need fair, efficient resolution, and that requires dedicated volunteers. Beyond the service itself, there are tangible benefits:

    For attorneys:

    • Four professionalism/ethics credits awarded each year
    • Pro Bono Madden exception granted
    • Networking opportunities with colleagues across the state
    • Additional free CLEs and educational opportunities

    For non-attorneys:

    • A meaningful opportunity to serve the public and the legal system
    • Training provided

Know someone who would be a good fit?

Please share this with anyone you think would make a strong public member. Business professionals, retirees and community leaders often serve well in this role.

    How to apply

Applications are available at https://www.njcourts.gov/sites/default/files/forms/12967_oae_vol_app.pdf and are due by Friday, May 1, 2026.

Questions about fee arbitration can be directed to Darrell Felsenstein, Statewide Fee Arbitration Coordinator, at darrell.f...@njcourts.gov.

This is one of the more rewarding forms of service available.

    Consider joining us.

Alan, happy to answer any questions
