The Library of Engineering and Science (LOES) in the Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC) holds approximately 30,000 print volumes, emphasizes the focus on provision of digital resources, and consolidates the holdings and services of six formerly separate libraries (Chemistry; Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences; Engineering; Life Sciences; Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Sciences; and Physics) into one easily accessible location. The materials selected for the physical collection of the Library of Engineering and Science have been evaluated by Libraries faculty with input from departmental faculty. The books, reference collection, and standards have been identified as high-use, high-demand materials that best support the teaching and learning goals of the curricula within the schools and departments. LOES also houses Libraries faculty and staff members, who specialize in access to information resources in engineering and science, as well as in instructing students on how to identify, locate, critique, and retrieve scholarly information. In collaboration with their faculty colleagues in the colleges and schools, the Libraries faculty teach specialized courses and/or participate as team faculty members. Although the focus of LOES is to provide access to information in engineering and science, the use of resources and space is open to all Purdue students and faculty.

WALC offers a training programme for both clerks and councillors. Some courses are only open to member councils and where open to members and non-members, offered at a lower cost to member councils. We provide training for both new and existing councillors and clerks and on specialist subjects relevant to the sector. We can also provide whole-council training.

Please see below for the events which are currently available. In attempt to cut down on course administration and to ensure that anyone booked on one of our training courses receives all the information, we ask that courses are booked by council officers (for themselves or members), in the name of the officer. The invoice and information will then be sent to the officer and the course details can then be distributed by the officer to the delegate. That way, the invoice reaches the council office and the delegate knows to expect the course information to come from the officer.

Bookings are to be made by council officers for themselves, colleagues or members. This is because an invoice for the council is generated by the booking and will be sent directly to the person who books.

College & Research Libraries News (C&RL News) is the official newsmagazine and publication of record of the Association of College & Research Libraries, providing articles on the latest trends and practices affecting academic and research libraries.

Seating space increased from 650 to more than 3,000 reader stations and the new ones are equipped with upgraded electrical and cabling systems that enable students to access power, voice, and databases from almost any location in the new library. Future plans include laptop docking capabilities. The new facility will add 275-375 computer workstations during the next two years providing increased access to electronic catalogs, inhouse electronic information, the Internet (which can be used to explore remote databases), and government documents.

Members of the Consortium are: University of Wyoming, Casper College, Central Wyoming College, Eastern Wyoming College, Laramie County Community College, Northern Wyoming Community College District/Sheridan College and the Gillette Campus, Western Wyoming Community College, and the Wyoming State Library.

The Linda Hall Library is a privately funded public library ot science, engineering, and technology in the U.S. that began in 1946 in the home of Herbert and Linda Hall. Because it is a list devoted to RBMS, it accepts postings relating to that topic only. Topics appropriate for posting include: official RBMS, ACRL, or ALA announcements; agendas or meeting minutes for RBMS, ACRL, or ALA meetings; discussion of items directly related to the business, operations, policies, or philosophy of RBMS, or ACRL and ALA as they affect RBMS; opinions about the operations, philosophy, and policies of RBMS; and announcements about items or documents being mounted on the RBMS homepage.

Operation of the RBMS list is made possible by the generosity of the University of California at Berkeley Library Systems Office and Digital Library Office, which maintain the host machine. The list liaison is Everett C. Wilkie Jr. of the Connecticut Historical Society. List policies are set by the RBMS Publications Committee, which is charged by the RBMS Executive Committee with oversight of the list.

New Mexico State University (NMSU) and the Universidad Autonoma de la Ciudad Juarez have entered into reciprocal borrowing and interlibrary loan agreements that allow faculty, staff, and students of the two universities to borrow publications from either library. Believed to be the first of its kind between American and Mexican academic libraries, the agreement allows individuals to borrow publications directly or to request them via ILL without having to cross the border.

The new agreement strengthens an important link with the Trans-Border Information Technology Collaborative (TBITC), which provides electronic information for the El Paso, Las Cruces, and Juarez communities. Once electronic catalogs of the two libraries are available on the TBITC Web page, faculty, staff, and students at NMSU, the Universidad Autonoma, the University of Texas at El Paso, the Dona Ana Branch Community College, and El Paso Community College will be able to identify resources in all regional academic libraries.

OCLC, Academic Book Center, and Yankee Book Peddler are working with selected libraries to fine-tune a process that will provide shelf- ready materials to libraries. Through the OCLC PromptCat service, which provides automated copy cataloging for materials on order with vendors, the shelf-ready option (available May 1997) will provide electronic files of labels for the physical processing of books.

The system will work like this: the vendor sends OCLC a list of materials being sent to the library; then OCLC locates the matching records and extracts an LC classification call number from the bibliographic record. To ensure that the call number in the record matches the call number on the item, electronic label files will be generated for the vendor at the same time the OCLC-MARC records are created for the user. Within a turnaround time of a few hours, the vendor will pick up the file of labels for physically processing the materials.

Brown University has selected the World Wide Web interface EBSCOhost to access the Academic Search FullTEXT 1,000 and MasterFILE FullTEXT 1,000 databases. Jerry and Pat Papenfuss, long-time supporters of Minnesota State College Southeast, expressed a desire to provide opportunities for students who might not otherwise see themselves as college-bound. At MSC Southeast, participating students will be able to train in career and technical programs that will ensure a living wage and brighter future.

"The college is humbled by this most generous gift. This gift reflects Jerry and Pat's deep commitment to the community, their belief in the value of career and technical education as a way to prepare learners for a productive life, and their desire to help those who are most in need of having someone believe and invest in them," stated Larry Lundblad, MSC Southeast Interim President.

Launching in Fall 2021, the Papenfuss Scholars Program will initially support five Winona ALC graduates by meeting all of their college expenses at MSC Southeast for up to two years. Funds will be awarded as "last-dollar" scholarships, meaning that after federal and state grants and any other scholarships are applied, the program will cover the remainder of tuition and fees.

"Not only will tuition, books, and fees be covered, but each student will receive a modest stipend to help with living expenses," said Josiah Litant, Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. "None of these students will have to pay for college out of pocket or leave with any sort of student loans; this is pivotal to helping ensure that these students have a debt-free start after graduation."

"This gift is providing an incredible opportunity for our students. Our students know how much the staff at the Winona Area Learning Center care about and support them, but knowing they are recognized and supported by community members means so much to all of us -- the students and staff," said Emily Cassellius, Principal, Winona Area Learning Center. "The entire staff at the WALC is grateful for this gift and the opportunities it will open up for our students."

"There can be many barriers to success besides financial. Navigating the college experience can be a challenge in itself, and issues on the home front can interfere with making progress in school," said Josiah Litant. "By having a person on staff who is dedicated to supporting these students, we will be able to help them all the way through, from enrollment to graduation."
