After today's class discussion of the epic of Gilgamesh, I now
realaized the discriptions of Gilgamesh and Enkidu clothes, or lack of
clothes, during their time of hunting or absence from the city of Uruk
were a symbolic tool in telling us the mind set the charaters at the
time of the event taking place in the epic.

First was when Enkidu was first entroduced in the epic as a beast like
man with no clothes. It was not until he was he was given clothes by
the harlot that he was being recognized as a human. It is passage
and only at this point was Enkidu first considered as being
civilizied.

The other events in which also desciptive of the clothes in which our
hero and/or his friend, Enkidu, were conveyed is the hunt of Hunbaba,
the death of Enkidu, the journey of Gilgamesh in hopes of finding
forever lasting life, and lastly where is is again cleaned and dressed
in fresh clothes for his retun jorney back to Uruk, where as King he
must be fresh in appearance and fully civilized to his townspeople.

It is just amazing at how small desciptive facts when brought to light
give a whole new meaning to the tale.
