The reunion between Odysseus and Penelope is somewhat of a let down
for me. But of course in today's time, what girl doesn't want to see
an overjoyed / Romeo & Juliet style / romantic type of reunion between
partners? But that's what happens when put in that particular
situation and sense the two have had lovers in the meantime. I don't
think anyone could blame Penelope for the way she reacted when first
seeing Odysseus again! They had been apart for so long that she
doesn't know what to say or how to act when she first sees him. It's
also understandable - yet quite funny - how Odysseus shows no concern
for the lack of his wife's happiness to see him. I'd be more concerned
with the fact that I just killed off all of the noble young men of
Ithaca as well! And then there's the son that's thrown in that just
wants to see his parents together and happy. I guess Telemakhos is let
down when he sees the reaction between his parents upon their meeting.
