This article provides easy-to-follow instructions for activating your new Bitdefender subscription. Bitdefender offers two options to choose from: you can either click on the activation link provided in the purchase email you receive after placing an online order or manually enter the activation code from the email or retail box. Automatic activation only happens in specific situations, which we will explain in more detail below.

If another subscription is already active in your Central account, access the My Subscriptions panel located on the left side of the page. Next, click + Activate with code.

When you make a purchase through the Bitdefender website, the activation takes place immediately after completing the transaction. No further steps or actions are required on your part. Automatic activation is available only for current Bitdefender users who meet the following conditions:

If the new acquisition matches the name and seat number of a product already active in your Central account (e.g. both Bitdefender Total Security, 5 users) then the old subscription will be extended automatically. Otherwise, the new subscription is activated and added in parallel.

When the subscription activates itself automatically, customers receive a separate email, similar to the one below, informing them that the subscription has been automatically activated and associated with their Bitdefender Central account.

You can check your subscription status and the expiration date of any subscription activated so far in your Bitdefender Central account. Open the My Subscriptions panel to find out if your new Bitdefender subscription was successfully activated.

No. Bitdefender codes only need to be activated once and may only be activated in one Bitdefender Central account. Once the subscription is active, the activation code is no longer needed in the (re)installation process, as all installations are managed directly from your Bitdefender Central account.

If you purchased a subscription and the new validity is not reflected in the installed product, just log out and log back in again to your Central account using the Switch Account button (see the image below for reference). That should refresh your Bitdefender account and allow you to use the renewed subscription.

I had this error code pop up and my VPN refused to connect. I unistalled the program and reinstalled it and it still did not work. I rebooted the computer, and even located and removed old registry information. I went through countless articles trying identify the problem and it seemed that nothing worked. My internet worked fine with no connectivity issues. After spending several hours losing my mind I found the fix for this. I simply re-booted my internet modem. After the modem finished its re-set the VPN connected without any problem. I thought I would pass this along for those of you seeing this error code. As of yersterday, BD VPN gives error code 12 on all my managed devices at the same time, and no amount of rebooting the PC or the router, or reinstalling the app via Total Security could fix it. I want to underline the fact that it happened at the same time on some of my managed devices which are 40 miles away on a totally unrelated network.

Also, it cant even be reinstalled form Total Security. When i click on Install BitDefender VPN, nothing happens and there is an error message : BitDefender VPN encountered an error and is disabled. Please restart your device and try again. It does this on all my managed devices at the same time. Needless to say that i rebooted 10 times, cleaned caches etc. etc. but that still would not explain why it happens on all my managed devices on unrelated network too.

I purchased and installed the 2020 version on a different/newer laptop. The license is for five devices with 220 days remaining on my subscription. Currently, only one device is covered with the 2020 version. I want to find the activation code for the 2020 version so I can update the laptop with the 2018 version. I logged into Bitdefender central, (I do have an account) clicked on My Subscriptions, but do not know where to locate the activation code. See the attached image for account info under My Subscriptions.

The activation code is used once and only once when activating a subscription on the account, after the purchase, meaning that at this point you do not need it anymore. In order to install Bitdefender on a 2nd, 3rd device etc. all you need to do is to login into your Bitdefender Central account and download it from there. I checked my email messages and could not locate the activation code which was sent to me by the seller. I had upgraded by 2019 version to 2020 and the instructions sent by the seller had me update using a username and password they set up. It was done by logging on to Bitdefender Central and going through the My Subscriptions option on that page. Sorry that I don't have the code. That is why I am trying to ask questions about how to locate the code either somewhere on the Bitdefender dashboard or on Bitdefender Central.

What follows are the instructions I was given in the email message by the seller. I have not included my username and password information (login credentials) the seller had included in the email message for security reasons.
