Dear Friends and Partners of Lithuania UMC
A new Newsletter has just been completed and if you would like to read about the latest happenings in Lithuania just go to the Link: http://www.lithuaniaumc.org/clientimages/40480/lumcnewsletter9-2009.pdf If you have any trouble connecting, go to our web page www.lithuaniaumc.org and click on Newsletters.
The summer has been a busy time for the UMC in Lithuania. Camps, visiting teams, camps, seminars, and did I mention camps. I know of at least 8 camps and that went on at the district and local church level this summer. What an opportunity to reach out to our young people. At our District Youth Camp in August more than half of the youth had never been to our camp before! This is one of the important ways we do evangelism with our youth.
The economic situation in Lithuania continues to be severe with unemployment at more than 17%. Many people have lost jobs or had their salaries or working hours cut back. We know that many of you are also feeling the effects of this crisis. The news for the future sounds encouraging but it will take some time for all of us to bounce back. Part of the effect of this has been fewer donations to the Advance Special for Pastors Salaries. We are now running a considerable deficit and I am trusting God that we can make it up before the end of the year. I have to say that our Lithuanian pastors who are working full-time receive modest compensation. Our cost for all 6 of them in dollars is less than the cost of one pastor’s package in the US. If you or your church can help with funds for our Pastors it would be most graciously appreciated. The Advance # for pastors salary support is 14715A. These funds can be channeled through your local church or you can even make a donation on line through the General Board of Global Ministries. You can click on this LINK for online giving.
We are so grateful for the support of our friends and Partner Churches that sustain the work here during these difficult times. Our prayers go out to all of you and we pray God’s blessing upon your ministries.
In Loving partnership,
John
