A History Making in English Writing by an Indian Writer

M C Raj has written many theory books and many fictions but this Operation Liquidus will stand out as one of his best till now. The reader has many jerking trips while going through the many pages. But throughout the journey he/she is bound to be drenched in the pool of literary style that he spreads across. At least this is what happened to me. I am sure it will happen to any reader of Operation Liquidus. Disturbances, surprises and shocks are aplenty. The creation of villains in a group of Catholic Cardinals who plot, scheme, and execute the murder of the Pope, Karl Marx and finally Jesus marks the worst that can happen in holy places. Will the Catholics forgive the author for this audacious character creation? They may call it character assassination. Whatever one may call it, the style with which the author has done this impeccable. Even his enemies will admire his style of writing. But who will ever imagine that the second coming of Jesus will be with such a bang, with two Muslims wives? Why two wives for Jesus? The question is for eternity.

The encounter with Gandhi may not earn the author many admirers in the world that has a blind following of Gandhi. But to make Kasturba confront Gandhi is the height of feminist imagination by M C Raj. The RSS may even draw blood for making them plot clandestinely the killing of Gandhi. Can this author be ever controlled in his boldness to take on many powers of the earth? The question recurs in the mind of the reader intermittently. And he builds his world of courage one by one. He will perhaps go down in history as the only Dalit in modern times who dared to be critical of Babasaheb Ambedkar on his conversion to Buddhism. Ambedkar ultimately regrets his conversion to Buddhism. However, the author’s secret admiration for Ambedkar does come out in bringing three great philosophers together.

What I enjoyed most in the novel is the travel through Italy, Germany, India and Brazil. I simply loved the journey with the gay journalist to many historical places of Germany. The encounters with Hitler and with Jewish rulers add a lot of flavour to the fiction. Those who do not enjoy a dialogical novel writing may find it a bit heavy in places as the conversations tend to be protracted in places. The discovery of Kris as Jesus at the very end of the novel by one of his wives is simply fascinating. One can say that M C Raj is at his best as a fiction writer of an international standard.

Many people are born in this world. But only some succeed to become great leaders. Many fictions have been written in world literary history. But this novel Operation Liquidus has all the ingredients of becoming one of the best and standing tall in world literature. Kudos to M C Raj Author!         - Jyothi
