Dr. Donovan,

Would the advisor need to be in San Francisco? Would the advisor need to be a PhD.?
I am currently finishing my dissertation in the use of narrative and arts involving the care of the seriously ill. I also have experience creating a curriculum for physician's assistants students, and I have taught bioethics at Villanova and St. Louis University. My Master's degree is in literature, and my undergraduate degree is in fine arts speech performance, with an emphasis in the performance of literature. At this point in my research,  I am looking at the phenomenology of trauma. Let me know if I can help.

Sincerely,

Barbara Hinze

    Hi,

I am an Assistant Professor of Geography at San Francisco State University.
My work is in the area of health geography. My more recent work focuses on
visual and narrative representation for understanding health experiences.

Two weeks ago I was informed of a small grant opportunity that will allow
me to initiate a hands-on project with military veterans with PTSD in the
San Francisco Bay Area. In brief, the project will be geared towards having
the veterans produce a multimedia art exhibit. The grant is from a
humanities organization and emphasizes storytelling. As part of my proposed
project, I will be having the veterans consider visual art and the
production of it as a form of storytelling and mode of healing. The grant
requires I identify a humanities expert who can act as an advisor on this
project. This role would involve providing guidance on a curriculum that
will be taught to the veterans and includes a small honorarium.

I presently have everything in place for this grant except the advisor.
Unfortunately, the grant is due tomorrow at 5PM. If this is a project that
may be of interest, please feel free to contact me at the email above. I am
happy to elaborate more on this project.

    Thank you in advance,

Hi Barbara,

Please, call me Courtney :).

Thanks so much for the email. Fortunately, I was able to identify a couple of people who were a good fit for the project for yesterday's deadline. I *just* made the deadline, so it's now in someone else's hands.

As I am embarking on a slightly different research trajectory from my previous work, I feel I can very much benefit from the feedback of other scholars, including yourself. I would love to stay in touch and hope I can contact you in the future? More and more I am coming to believe in the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Your background sounds really fascinating -- as does your dissertation research! In what field are you pursuing your PhD?

Best,

Courtney
