Stony Brook University

Stony Brook’s School of Medicine, Department of Preventive Medicine, invites applications for a faculty position in the Division of Medicine in Society, which is responsible for the medical school’s extensive and highly regarded ethics and humanities program.
The Division seeks a tenure track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with a co-appointment in the appropriate academic department. He or she will direct a major component of the Division’s curriculum for medical students, contribute to clinical teaching in the medical humanities and participate in the development of the multidisciplinary Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care and Bioethics.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Medical Humanities or a related discipline and have experience teaching in a medical school or other health professions setting. Candidates must demonstrate a record of teaching, service, and scholarship appropriate to academic rank; excellent interpersonal skills; and proven ability to work successfully in a team with health care professionals. A PhD in English or Literature and experience in curriculum design and development are preferred.
