The Vanderbilt University Department of Medicine, Health, and Society is currently accepting applications for our interdisciplinary master’s program in the Social Foundations of Health. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2024. Please share the following call for applications with anyone who is interested in advanced training in the social and cultural aspects of health and illness.
Drawing on courses in the medical sciences, humanities, and social sciences, this innovative interdisciplinary field of study transcends the traditional biomedical approach to understanding health and illness. MHS students learn to think critically about complex social issues that impact health, healthcare, and health policy.
The curriculum trains students to meet emerging challenges in our healthcare system. Students receive training in quantitative, qualitative, humanistic, and mixed methods, and go on to a variety of health-related careers, including medical physicians, dentistry, healthcare law, research administration, healthcare consulting, and health policy.
This one-year master’s program is also an excellent alternative to post-baccalaureate premedical programs for those preparing for and applying to professional school.
