Hello!
For those who don't know me, my name is Jake Ortman, and I work for ispi,
the company that makes Vnews: an online publishing solution for college
newspapers (I won't go into details on the product, as this isn't the proper
forum for it, but e-mail me if you want more info, or go to
http://www.universityinsider.com). One of the prime beliefs I have is that
people who work for college newspapers are some of the hardest working
individuals around (I worked at my college paper, the Oregon Daily Emerald,
for 3 years, and the folks there are testament to that). But one of the
things I have noticed is that if you wanted to ask someone for advice, there
didn't seem to be a place on the Web you could go (yes, I know there are
e-mail lists, but many folks aren't comfortable with them).
So the ispi programmers and I have setup a message board exclusively for
anybody that works or has worked at a college newspaper -- advisors,
reporters, online staff, graphic artists, ad designers, sales and business
folks. We're trying to build a place where students and advisors can go
discuss just about anything, from building better editorial content to
marketing your web site and bringing in more readers.
So please go check it out and please contribute. It's very much in its
infant stages, so I encourage you to post to the board, share your thoughts,
questions, concerns, and whatever you feel like posting. I've always felt
that in the newspaper industry (print or online), getting help from many
people is far better than getting help from one person, and that's what I'm
trying to do with this message board.
Point your browser to:
http://board.universityinsider.com/ to go directly to the message board.
E-mail me if you have any problems, flames, suggestions, questions, topic
ideas or changes, etc... I encourage your feedback, and will reply to all
e-mail (you can also find me on ICQ at 7739361, as well).
Please forward this on to students and faculty as well as I'd like to
encourage as many people to use the board as possible.
Thank you for your time,
Jake Ortman
