Hi guys.

I'm getting my clips file all spruced up. Because I'm minoring in
design, I thought I would copy and paste my stories into my very own
Quark template, which I designed. The template makes all the stories
"look" the same, and I have the paper's masthead flag on the top, along
with each section name on the left and other info on the right top. The
rest of the page has the story. The hed goes across the width of the
page.

This is my situation: Because I'm just copying and pasting my stories
from the paper's Quark file into my own, I have been correcting
mistakes missed by editors or screwed up by production staff.
Therefore, my clips are cleaned copies of the printed, published copy.
Do you think this is wrong or no? I'm afraid I won't know where not to
cross that "line." What do you all think?

I think that when the time comes for you to be interviewed for a job, the
interviewer understands that articles have been edited by someone other than
you. So the minor editing is OK.

However, tearsheets are often more impressive than a specially paginated
string book.

This is highly unethical, because the people reading your clips are under
the understanding that youre sending stuff that was actually published,
and if youre changing it after the fact, it hasnt been.
