UltraDMA problems

After having unsuccesfully tried to install OpenBSD and FreeBSD on my
Pentium III/450MHz, I finally tried to install NetBSD, and this is where I
was able
to detect the problem. Apperently NetBSD is less susceptible to UltraDMA
failures;
if UDMA-2 fails, NetBSD 'downgrades' to UDMA-1. On the other hand, FreeBSD
(release 4.0)
installation freezes while trying to write to the Partition table of the
disk, showing
the following messages:

DEBUG: diskPartitionWrite: Examining 1 devices
DEBUG: Notify: writing partition information to drive ad0
ad0: WRITE command timeout - resetting
ata0: resetting devices .. done

The message loops a couple of times and the system freezes.
I get similar error messages from OpenBSD.

However, here are the messages from the kernel at bootup from NetBSD:

Aug 16 02:09:33 /netbsd: pciide0:0:0: lost interrupt
Aug 16 02:09:33 /netbsd: type: ata
Aug 16 02:09:33 /netbsd: c_bcount: 2048
Aug 16 02:09:33 /netbsd: c_skip: 0
Aug 16 02:09:33 /netbsd: pciide0:0:0: Bus-Master DMA error: missing
interrupt, status=0x60
Aug 16 02:09:33 /netbsd: wd0: transfer error, downgrading to Ultra-DMA
mode 1
Aug 16 02:09:33 /netbsd: wd0(pciide0:0:0): using PIO mode 4, Ultra-DMA
mode 1 (using DMA data transfers)
Aug 16 02:09:33 /netbsd: wd0a: DMA error writing fsbn 16 of 16-19 (wd0
bn 7165006; cn 7108 tn 2 sn 16), retrying
Aug 16 02:09:33 /netbsd: wd0: soft error (corrected)

Anybody can tell me where I can get an installation floppy image
for FreeBSD that will have a kernel with UDMA features disabled?
Note that the BIOS setup settings are circumvented by FreeBSD;
disabling UDMA in BIOS has no result.
