Hello from the DC Food For All!
It's been two weeks since our soft launch party, the Great Harvest. (If you missed the video from the event,
watch it here).
Since then on the DC Food For All, we've heard from a couple of people at Bread for the City about efforts to
improve the nutritious value of their food pantry's menu, and bring in tons of fresh produce from regional farms through
their gleaning program. We also learned about what
food insecurity is, and
what it looks like in DC.
Ed Bruske of the Slow Cook discussed the state of
the movement to bring fresh food into our schools; and Shaw Girl, from local blog Adventures in Shaw, wrote about how to organize
a collaborative all-volunteer food blogger bake sale.
And on Friday, Barrett Jones and Carl Rollins filed
a report from the Lederer Youth Garden, which is in need of some TLC.
What's next? Lots of stuff in the works, including plans for another big community feast (woo!).
We've also tentatively scheduled a workshop for the evening of Monday, Nov 16 (for anything from blogging to cooking to video to organizing). That's coming up soon - reply to let us know if you'll plan to come, would like to help organize, or have any questions.
