Dear colleagues,
on the initiative of DVV International and thanks to project funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), a global network has come together for the first time to develop a common definition of adult learning and education (ALE) and apply it globally. Teachers, learners and representatives of adult education organizations speak with one voice worldwide: "We are ale".
With the completion of the DVV International project, a campaign was developed and the project was handed over to the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE). ICAE is supported by numerous international adult education organizations on five continents. DVV International remains an active supporter of the campaign.
We would like to cordially invite you to participate in the kick-off event of the global “we are ale” campaign on March 22nd, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please also note the following information and the attached invitation.

The ICAE event will be held in English, Spanish and French.
The kick-off event marks the beginning of the five-year global campaign “We are ale” to improve the visibility of adult education - in English “Adult Learning and Education” or “ALE” for short. The campaign aims to strengthen the voice of civil society to promote the right of young people and adults to high quality, lifelong education.
All employees of the Bonn headquarters as well as the regional and country offices are cordially invited to find out more about the campaign at the event. We would be delighted if the regional and country offices were to participate in the five-year campaign, an exchange on this is planned latest at the Country Directors Meeting in June.
Please see the attached Call to action for ways of supporting the campaign, and some of the campaign material.
Follow the campaign’s accounts on social media and feel free to tag them in your posts. There will be one post every day on all three channels until the kick off event – share and like!

Auf Initiative von DVV International und dank einer Projektfinanzierung des Bundesministeriums für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) hat sich zum ersten Mal ein globales Netzwerk zusammengeschlossen, um eine gemeinsame Definition von Erwachsenenbildung (adult learning and education – ale) zu entwickeln und global anzuwenden. Mit Abschluss des Projektes wurde eine Kampagne entwickelt, deren Leitung dem Internationalen Rat der Erwachsenenbildung (ICAE) übergeben wurde. ICAE wird von zahlreichen internationalen Organisationen der Erwachsenenbildung aus fünf Kontinenten unterstützt. DVV International bleibt ein aktiver Unterstützer der Kampagne.

Die ICAE-Veranstaltung wird auf Englisch, Spanisch und Französisch durchgeführt.
Die Auftaktveranstaltung ist der Beginn der fünfjährigen globalen Kampagne „We are ale“ zur Verbesserung der Sichtbarkeit der Erwachsenenbildung – auf English „Adult Learning and Education“ oder kurz „ALE“. Die Kampagne will die Stimme der Zivilgesellschaft stärken, das Recht aller Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen auf qualitativ hochwertige und lebenslange Bildung zu fördern.
Alle Mitarbeitenden der Bonner Zentrale sowie der Regional- und Landesbüros sind herzlich eingeladen, sich bei der Veranstaltung über die Kampagne zu informieren. Über die Beteiligung der Regional- und Landesbüros an der fünfjährigen Kampagne würden wir uns sehr freuen, ein Austausch dazu ist spätestens auf der Landesleitertagung im Juni vorgesehen.
