i think I may have missed the discussion of this, but there ARE commercial services that will do the redirect following etc.

For example https://www.drlinkcheck.com/pricing  Dr Link Check has a $13/month "Standard" plan that would seem to meet our needs?

Were these already considered? Or inadequate somehow?

The consensus was to come up with something that pulls directly from Zotero.  And $15/month seems awfully steep for something like this.

I'm about 50% of the way through writing one.
