We "meet" using Google Meet.   I'd suggest you could drop in on a Monday or Wednesday 10am pacific time.
Next Monday is Labor Day ... we record the meetings for those who can't make it. I'd suggest we pick a time at your convenience and go over some of our activities on areas of possible mutual interest.

Hi Larry, yes it would be useful to see what might exist in the CedarDorado and Cedar QEMU efforts that would help you and what you know that could help in these efforts.
Do you have a zoom meeting or are you meeting in person? (I'm not close to the Bay Area).

You are running qemu inside the virtual box?  Can we run the qemu directly on the mac? or is there some reason we need the ubuntu?

Carl,

Following the instructions in your video, I was able to start Cedar on an Intel/Ubuntu machine. (I first tried on my MacBook Air M2, but Virtual Box on Apple Silicon can’t run x86 virtual machines. Presumably an Arm version of the xubuntu VM could be set up. It would probably be good to document what all is in this outer VM, in case someone wants to run QEMU directly on their host machine.

I’ve forgotten pretty much everything I’d learned about Cedar a few months ago, so I’ll wait for further videos from you to get back up to speed.

Will this configuration allow networking from the NetBSD machine out to my desktop local network?

Bottom line: this seems like a giant step toward a distributable Cedar artifact.

Hi folks,
I've put my virtual machine for running Cedar10.1 on NetBSD9.4-sparc on my Google Drive and made the folder accessible at
There's also a video in the folder showing how to install and set up the VM and how to get from there to running Cedar. I think that for people who've used Cedar before this will be enough to get you going. But I'd love to hear back if you get stuck. I intend to make a couple more videos on driving and exploring Cedar and on how to write, compile, and run Cedar code.

At this point my recommendation is to run this on a linux box. In theory it should work fine on Windows but there are weird keyboard misbehaviors already at the level of the xubuntu virtual box VM that compound when running the netbsd machine inside it. So safer to just host it on linux if you can. I'd also be very curious if it would run on a Mac. I have no way to test that.

Hanson and Paul: I think this is the gist of what might become a distributable Cedar artifact. It is clear of any license restrictions, as far as I know. It consists only of xubuntu, NetBSD, installed packages for both of those, the Cedar CDROM, PPCR source from PARC, and my relatively small work on PPCR for NetBSD which I would, of course, license on the same terms as the Xerox license. It would be good if the videos had some production values other than "make it work somehow" which is what my video skill level is.

Have a great weekend!
