I've checked in the setup/teardown scripts in medley for building ethernet bridges to make it easier to experiment with multiple Medley instances talking to each other with XNS over raw ethernet, rather than Dodo's encapsulation in a TCP stream.

You can experiment with these without actually doing anything with Medley just to make sure they work for you on your version of macOS (or FreeBSD).

I initially checked in, but have now withdrawn, the linux version of the script -- the Linux interface manipulation commands do not play nicely. I'll see whether I can get that working.

Linux versions of the scripts work now - at least on Linux Mint 22.1, and I hope on other Linux systems that have the "ip" command for managing interfaces.

I've not had a chance to test yet, but it appears that Kubuntu has it (So it's probably safe to assume Ubuntu also has it).

This is an excellent thing to get working again, I assume it returns historic functionality for Email and Chat services?

Actually, email technically already works with Lafite, Unix style mailboxes, and postfix. See this discussion.

Linux Mint was where I started testing, and that's Ubuntu based, I think.

Even without the raw XNS code support, compiling Maiko (on my ethernet branch) with `./makeright [ x | sdl ] NETWORK=NETNUB` you can get an emulator that works with the Dodo provided XNS services, which include clearinghouse, filing, and mail.  Dodo is a little fiddly to configure.   Lafite (the mail user agent) with UNIXMAIL loaded can retrieve mail from a /var/spool/mail mbox file and store it in a lafite folder without network code, but I have managed to have it talk XNS to the Dodo implementation of Mail service, and it works.
