In the April 21, 2025 implementation meeting I demoed DandeGUI, my new Medley GUI library for simple text and graphics output. I also published a blog post with some more details.

DandeGUI is "groundbreaking", according to AI 😀

My blog is federated with ActivityPub and the latest post on DadeGUI was picked up on Mastodon by LavX News, a bot account that scrapes content, paraphrases it with AI, and republishes it to its own site as news. They processed my post and, according the their Mastodon post, "DandeGUI is a groundbreaking GUI library".

Speaking of scrapers, I've run across an Interlisp "tagsquatter" on GitHub.

On the GitHub repo of DandeGUI I added the tag "interlisp". Browsing through the list of projects tagged interlisp I found one named Medley that's a crypto-based concert ticketing platform. Among other tags the project also has "interlisp" and "common-lisp-tools", even if the software doesn't involve Lisp in any way and has nothing even remotely related to Lisp. Do they squat Lisp tags because they think Lisp searches are popular?

I added to DandeGUI basic support for rich text output.

Why isn't it pronounced "dandy-goo-ee"? That's how "GUI" is pronounced.

DandeGUI is a sort of dress for a user interface and the image I'm meaning to evoke is of a person who dresses like a dandy. "Guy" seemed the closest to a person who may dress as a dandy, and I assumed the pronunciation of guy is close enough to that of GUI. Isn't it?

No, they are completely different. "GUI" is two syllables, gu-i; "guy" is one syllable, Spanish/Italian "gay/gai".

I’m of the opinion that the inventor is allowed to suggest their preferred pronunciation, but people will pronounce it however they want anyway :-).

Steve Wilhite’s office was around the corner from mine at CompuServe. He was a really nice guy and it still bugs me when people try to pronounce GIF with a hard G...

Okay then, I'll revise the hint to dandy gh... just kidding. I reverted the hint back to "dandy guy" and I'll take any mispronunciations as a sign of interest and success.
