to Interlisp core
we're planning a conversation with CHM staff about Interlisp.org collaborations with CHM.
I thought this was an interesting snapshot of ongoing CHM activities as background for that discussion.

Your Summer Upgrade

See What's Computing

Make this a summer to remember at CHM with hands-on experiences, special exhibits, and 2,000 years of computing history under one roof.

Step up to the Big Mac—an oversized, meticulously handcrafted replica of the original Macintosh—and experience what using a computer felt like in the 1980s. Live demonstrations take place from 2–4 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month.

Don't miss Apple@50, our special exhibit celebrating five decades of Apple innovation. Explore rare prototypes and iconic products, including the Apple I, Apple IIc, Lisa, Macintosh, Newton, iPod, and iPhone. On view through September 9.

Dive into CHM's signature exhibits, where you can journey from the abacus to artificial intelligence, uncover the stories behind world-changing software, and explore the history—and future—of AI chatbots.

USA at 250

Stars and Punched Cards

To mark America’s 250th anniversary, CHM is celebrating Silicon Valley’s role in the story of our country with limited-time displays that honor the spirit of innovation:

  • An ASCII art American Flag programmed on the IBM 1401 computer, the landmark system that reshaped business operations worldwide.
  • CHM Founding Father Gordon Moore’s Fairchild Semiconductor notebook—a historic “founding document” in the story of Silicon Valley—faithfully recreated for display.

See these impactful symbols in the CHM lobby through August and dive deeper into the history of U.S. technology in our exhibits.

      Vintage Computer Festival

      Celebrate Retro Computing

      August 1–2, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. PDT

Vintage Computer Festival is back! Celebrating the history, culture, preservation, and hands-on experience of retro computing, the two-day event is a favorite of tech enthusiasts and families alike.

Explore an extraordinary showcase of historical computers, from pristine originals to ingenious modern hacks. Experience hands-on demos of historical systems from the 1960s through the 1990s, learn preservation tips, try out brands like Apple, Atari, Commodore, Tandy/Radio Shack, and more.

Your ticket grants full access to VCF-West as well as CHM exhibits, demos, the Bistro Café, and the Museum Store.

On Saturday, August 1 at 6 p.m., VCF attendees are invited to join the premiere screening of OSBORNE: The Man Who Would Be King. While Jobs and Gates are household names, tech lore has forgotten Adam Osborne, inventor of the portable computer. The film captures Osborne's remarkable journey and how it changed the computer world. After the screening, join us for a panel discussion and Q&A with the film's director Anand Kamalakar, Lee Felsenstein (Designer/Engineer Osborne 1), Mike Healy (President, Osborne UK), and David Carlick (Head, Osborne Computer Company Advertising Agency).
