Description
The Associate Director for Public Services will provide leadership in the planning, startup and implementation of innovative reference, instruction, and access services in support of learning, teaching and research at NYU AD. Working with the Director of the NYU AD Library and the Division of Libraries at NYU-NY, the Associate Director will design a suite of library services for faculty and students that will evolve as the NYU AD curriculum and faculty expand. This position is located in Abu Dhabi and reports to the Director of Libraries at NYUAD. The incumbent will spend time in New York City as well as Abu Dhabi during the initial planning phase.
Description and Responsibilities
• Planning, startup and implementation of essential public services, including reference, information literacy instruction, faculty support services, access services, document delivery and Interlibrary Loan
• Develop and lead a team of public services librarians and staff
• Serve as a member of the senior management team in the NYU-AD Library
• Participate in library space planning and facilities management
• Serve as liaison to the Division of Libraries units providing public services support to the NYU AD Library
• Collaborate with NYU ITS to integrate information technology into public services programming
• Develop effective relationships with NYU-AD faculty and administration to strengthen the collaboration between the library’s programs and its patrons in the university
Qualifications
• ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent in experience, training and practice
• Minimum 3 years experience in academic or research library
• Experience with instructional and reference services and/or access services
• Supervisory experience
• Management and budgetary experience
• Record of effective engagement with faculty
• Demonstrated knowledge of reference and research practices, issues and trends in scholarly communication
• Demonstrated knowledge of access and resource sharing practices, issues and trends
• Excellent oral and written English communication and presentation skills
• Preferred Education/Experience: Record of professional involvement, scholarly publication and presentation; Second Masters Degree in a subject area relevant to the NYUAD academic program; project and facilities management experience
Reporting Relationship
The Associate Director will be located in Abu Dhabi and will report to the Director of the Library at NYU, Abu Dhabi.
