CITY LIBRARIAN – ESTEVAN PUBLIC LIBRARY BRANCH
THE POSITION
Southeast Regional Library, with headquarters in Weyburn, Saskatchewan seeks a City Librarian for their Estevan Public Library Branch. The City Librarian is responsible for the effective administration and management of the branch library in their community, acting upon the advice of the local library board and under the direction of the Branch Manager or Designate. The Librarian applies professional library skills and techniques to the provision of regional reference services, local reader’s advisory work, collection development and local staff development and supervision. The Librarian promotes and coordinates library services and programmes in the local community, as well as assisting in the development and delivery of programmes, services and initiatives on a regional basis. The Librarian acts as secretary to the local library board and to all committees of the local library board. The Librarian will perform public library service duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution; maintain an active membership in the Saskatchewan Library Association; strong management, fiduciary and supervisory skills; a working knowledge of library practices and procedures including those of a computerized library environment; superior interpersonal, time management and problem-solving skills; superior oral and written communication skills; ability to sustain cooperative, productive relationships with staff, trustees and the general public; demonstrated ability to do basic accounting; demonstrated ability to operate office equipment including computers; keyboarding speed 30 wpm with a maximum error rate of 2%; previous library experience of a progressively more responsible nature is desired; possession of a valid driver licence and the ability to drive throughout the region as required; must be bondable; physical fitness allowing the lifting and moving of boxes of library materials.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Manage the local library branch under the supervision of the Branch Manager or Designate.
- Work with the local library board in areas of their responsibility as per current regional policies.
- Promote library services in the local community and respond to local community needs in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist the public in the use of the library and its automated functions.
- Provide full reference service, specializing in intermediate and advanced service to library users.
- Supervise, train and evaluate staff at the local branch.
- Build, promote and weed collections of library materials that are appropriate to the needs of the local community.
- Under the direction of the local library board, develop appropriate programmes that are pertinent to community needs and interests.
- Manage the library facility in cooperation with the local municipality.
- Manage the branch’s finances, banking activities and financial reporting on behalf of the Local Library Board.
- Provide supervision of the library facility for safety and security.
- Assist in the oversight and management of regional library services.
- Attend approved workshops, conferences and seminars to maintain professional skills.
- Other public library service duties as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Branch Manager or Designate.

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary and benefit package will be based on management experience, qualifications and scope of starting responsibilities. The starting salary is $44,362.50 with 8 steps up to $55,848.00. The benefits package includes ASO health plan, group life insurance, LTD, EAP and a matching pension plan.
