Description
The Associate Director for Collections and Technical Services will provide leadership in the planning, development, acquisition, and cataloging of electronic, media, print, and special collections in support of learning, teaching and research at NYU AD. Working with the Director of the NYU AD Library and the Division of Libraries at NYU-NY, the Associate Director will develop the collections profile and establish the acquisitions and technical services processes for the new library at NYUAD. This position is located in Abu Dhabi and reports to the Director of Libraries at NYUAD. The incumbent will spend time in New York City as well as Abu Dhabi during the initial planning phase.
Description and Responsibilities
• Responsible for the acquisition and development of collections in close collaboration with the Division of Libraries during the planning, startup and implementation stages of the NYU AD campus
• Develop appropriate procedures and documentation for collection management and phase-in
• Manage the expenditure of collections funds in collaboration with the NYU-NY Division of Libraries staff and policies
• Coordinate with the Division of Libraries units providing collection development, licensing, acquisitions and cataloging support to the NYU AD Library
• Develop and lead a team of collections specialists and staff
• Serve as a member of the senior management team in the NYU-AD Library
• Develop effective relationships with NYU-AD faculty and administration to develop and promote the collection in support of curricular and research initiatives
Qualifications
• ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent in experience, training and practice
• Minimum 3 years experience in academic or research library
• Experience in collection development including digital collection management practices
and/or technical services
• Management and budgetary experience
• Supervisory experience
• Knowledge of ILS applications, collections and technical services automation and resources
• Record of effective engagement with faculty
• Experience with copyright and intellectual rights management
• Working knowledge of research trends, academic publishing, licensing issues and scholarly communication
• Excellent oral and written English communication and presentation skills
• Preferred Education/Experience: Record of professional involvement, scholarly publication and presentation; Second Masters Degree in a subject area relevant to the NYUAD academic program; project management skills
Reporting Relationship
The Associate Director will be located in Abu Dhabi and will report to the Director of the Library at NYU, Abu Dhabi.
