ABOUT THE IATLIS
The Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) is a professional association of more than 600 teachers and professionals in Library and Information Science in India. Since its inception in 1969, IATLIS has been active in taking up several issues of LIS Education in India especially relating to the development of curriculum, teaching methods, infrastructure, teacher training, etc. It actively works for the promotion of the professional interests of LIS teachers. As part of its activities, it conducts national seminars, workshops, and training programmes. The Central University of Haryana is among 15 newest Central Universities established by the MHRD under the Central Universities Act, 2009 of the Parliament. The university has been awarded ‘A’ Grade by NAAC. It is a student-centered research institution located in Mahendergarh, Haryana. Mahendergarh is now a part of the Extended Capital Region (NCR) and is around 125 Kilometers away from Delhi and well connected to Delhi through Railways.
Under the dynamic guidance of Vice-chancellor Prof. R C Kuhad, one of the most respected and eminent scholars in India and backed by rich and diverse faculty the university aims to develop enlightened citizenship of a knowledge society for peace and prosperity of individuals, nation and the world, through the promotion of innovation, creative endeavours, and scholarly inquiry. A keen profile, outstanding achievements in research and teaching, and a modern administration are the focus of its actions. The pursuit of knowledge and technological progress is guided by the principles of excellence and quality. Currently the university has eleven schools and more than thirty Departments offering UG, PG and doctoral degree courses. Each department organizes teaching and research in a different subject area.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Library and Information Science was started from the academic session 2014-2015 under the School of Computer Science and Informatics. The aim of the department is to impart quality education to meet national and global challenges through providing training & research facilities and promoting new technologies in teaching & learning that are globally recognized, meet the needs of a changing society and highly valued at different workplaces. The Department currently offers PG Programme(Master of Library & Information Science) with a regular study period of four semesters and welcomes students from all backgrounds, who have an interest in entering and progressing within, the LIS profession. The course provides comprehensive education in view of multidisciplinary fields of study, incorporating the fundamental and applied subjects in Library and Information Science. Our teaching emphasizes both traditional and digital media, engagement with digital Library Practices. The Students of the department are placed in the various Libraries, Information Centers, and academic Institutions
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The theme of the IATLIS National Conference 2018 is: LIS Education, Research and Training (LISERT): Capacity Building and the Sustainable Development Goals
Sub-themes include, but are not limited to:
· UN Sustainable Development Goals and capacity building
· Technology advances and demands for new skills and competencies.
· Manpower development for mobile-based library services, big data opportunities, knowledge consultancy, etc.
· Media and information literacy skills
· LIS research for advancing the role and services of libraries
· LISERT collaborations across frontiers
· Open and distance learning in LIS
· Learning resources: MOOCs, e-PG Pathshala
· Globalization and its impact on LISERT
· Ethics and aesthetics of LIS education and practice
- A Tutorial on "Media and information literacy-based evaluation criteria for separating predatory publications from scholarly journals” would also be conducted at the conference.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The organizing committee invites articles and scholarly papers on the theme of the conference. Interested paper presenters are requested to kindly send abstract (300 – 500 words) latest by10 October 2018. Abstracts will be reviewed to check quality and relevance to the main topic of the conference. The abstracts should include full title including sub-title (if any), names and contact details of all authors, abstract proper, 3-5 keywords, and a brief bio (up to 200 words) of each author, latest by 10 October 2018 to the General Secretary, IATLIS, C/o Department of Library and Information Science, Punjabi University, Patiala-147002 (Punjab), preferably by email at

The registration fee covers conference kit, proceedings of the conference (upon post-publication), and working lunch, and session tea for the conference days. The registration fee does not include breakfast, dinner and accommodation. Papers presented at the conference will be published in the post-conference volume that would be sent to the registered delegates later on, as per the decision of the General Body. Delegates are requested to include registration fees for accompanying persons while forwarding their registration forms since it would not be possible to entertain last minute requests for accommodation. Accompanying persons shall not be entitled for conference kits. Delegates are requested to intimate their travel plans in advance to avoid last minute inconvenience. The Demand Draft/ Multicity cheque for registration fee should be in favour of IATLIS payable at Patiala, and should be sent along with the duly filled in Registration Form latest by 27 November 2018.
