January will bring some changes for me! Wycliffe policy permits those of Medicare age to "reduce their assignment" and not work full time. I am in the process of transitioning to work only 32 hours/week, effective December 31, 2024.
I tried to think through the most likely questions this change might raise:
Why make this change now? I've been watching others in this chapter of life and determined that it would be better for me to transition into retirement, rather than have a "hard stop" at the end of 2027. I am thankful to be in the best health I've been in for a long while and will appreciate a little more time to invest in activities to help me stay healthy into the future, Lord willing. There are also some volunteer positions opening up through Faith Church, with other local ministries and in my neighborhood. I'm looking forward to exploring those opportunities.
Who else spoke into this decision? When the idea began to take shape, I connected with Faith Church's GO (Global Outreach) Team leadership and with key personal advisors. They asked good questions and helped the plan come into full form. Their affirmation and encouragement were essential in the process.
How will the job change? I won't be handing off any of the tasks I've been doing since taking these new roles in 2022. I've learned both my roles better and one has become more clearly defined, so I should be able to accomplish all the same things I've been doing in only four days each week.
What about prayer and financial partnerships? I will still be dependent on the faithful generosity and prayers of God's people. However, I know that if I were to change my hours in a non-ministry job, there would likely be a change in my compensation. Please know that if God should prompt you to change your level of giving toward my Wycliffe ministry, I would completely understand.
Please let me know as other questions arise. I am grateful for all the ways you have blessed me over these (almost) 15 years! All those we've served -- colleagues who have helped advance Bible translation -- have benefited from your faithful partnership... and God has been glorified.
