As summer slowly turns it face towards fall, I pull out my cool weather gloves, scarves, and embrace the softness of approaching winter light. It is a silvery light.

I will travel to Los Angeles for the annual global gala sponsored by Yoga Gives Back, on Sunday, November 16.
This organization represents the heart of yoga, as it enables collaboration among yogis, dialog among cultures, and serves the marginalized and poor women in India.

This year, myself, Nischala Joy Devi, and Dr. Christopher Chapple will receive leadership awards. The gala will be held at the Sofitel hotel in the Beverly Hills area and will feature friends, speeches by the honorees, an Indian dinner and more. There is also, on Saturday, a day retreat of yoga with the fabulous Jeanne Heileman, Ashley Rideaux, Lauren Peterson and more.

Whether you can join us for the Gala or not, consider donating to YGB, it is truly an exceptional organization!

I began my deeper dive into yoga in Chris Chapple's living room, in the mid-1990s. We studied the Yoga Sutras for several years. Chris went on to create a Graduate Program in Eastern Studies at Loyola Marymount University. Nischala pioneered life style changes alongside Dr. Dean Ornish in the 1980s by including yoga in Ornish's Preventative Medicine programs in the San Francisco area.  I wrote a book review and used Nischala's The Secret Power of Yoga, the first female authored translation of the Yoga Sutras I ever saw. I am honored to be recognized alongside these precious people.

If you cannot join us there, I will also teach a workshop at the Center for Yoga on Saturday November 22. More on that later..
