And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin
This was one of Maty Ezraty's favorite quotes. Most of you know that Maty and I worked closely together in building out the teacher training for Yoga Works. When Maty left YogaWorks I stayed on and tried to be the voice for the integrity of yoga as a corporation took control over YogaWorks. At that time, the corporate management made many things possible and supported the growth of our community. I can honestly say that it was a good relationship. The teacher training thrived and students all over the world benefited from the YogaWorks style of yoga.
I remember, I think it was 2013, I sat in on an interview with Guruji and Phil Goldberg. Philip was on a book tour through India for his book American Veda. Philip asked Guruji what he thought would happen to yoga after his death. Guruji said that his work would be absorbed into the larger yoga world. It is now interesting, in retrospect, to realize that belt, bolsters, and alignment are in the larger vernacular and most yoga students have never heard of Iyengar or Iyengar yoga. But Yogaworks always supported Iyengar Yoga and I felt that this was an excellent way to keep Iyengar Yoga in the forefront, to make it accessible.
All things change. After 35 years, I will be leaving YogaWorks. The details are irrelevant, I trust that YW will work through their changes as well.
Another fabulous quote by Anais Nin:
Life shrinks or expands according to one's courage.
MY TEACHING SCHEDULE WILL STAY THE SAME. I will be teaching on another platform, beginning April 28. Many other YogaWOrks teachers will move with me. I will email and let everyone know in a few weeks. rest assured, we can still study together.
Be patient, all will be revealed. Love prevails!
