In Chapter Nine, the boys begin to grow excited about an upcoming boxing match between Griff, a black boy, and a white boy, Big Chet. Boxing is a popular sport at Nickel, with teachers and school staff heavily involved in betting on the matches. Black boys from Nickel have won the big boxing matches for the past fifteen years. As Elwood learns about the history of boxing at Nickel, it is revealed that Trevor Nickel, the first headmaster of Nickel Academy, had been a member of the Ku Klux Klan.
But the Beach Boys remain his real management success and, of course, his proudest achievement. Today he lives in the less modest surroundings of Nixonian Whittier, on the other side of Los Angeles County. Yet, as Murry fondly recalls those good-fighting show biz times with his boys in the early Sixties, one can still detect a little Hawthorne in the man.

Over the past week, me and Yan immersed ourselves in the world of TFboys. We spent hours studying the their performances and stories, watching visual documents and tracing into their fans' online communities. There were moments we felt we finally got the answers, and other times we felt even more baffled, unable to fully grasp on this idol-fans relationship that is so twisted yet so powerful.
Having had enough TFboys time to ourselves, we now want to share this investigative journey with you through a two-part Elephant Room story. In part I, we'd walk you through the idol-manufacturing history of the three boys and sketch you a loose portray of their fans, and in part II next week we will dive deeper into the fans' ecosystem to examine its impacts on both the Chinese entertainment industry and youth culture.
Writing about TFboys was so much harder than we thought it would be (we felt like some sorts of underground detectives for the whole week), yet at the end of the day, we believe the boys and their fans truly are an important story for those want to know about today's China beyond skin-deep.
The important thing is how they heard it, because I think it will very likely result in violence, and you just cannot undo a statement like that. And also, not for nothing, a Proud Boys [member was was at least partly] responsible for [organizing] the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville. So for Trump not to know about them is a flagrant failure of his presidency.
It's not until they are on their senior trip to New York City that Lara Jean tells Peter about the mix up. She says she's leaning towards Berkeley to live closer to him as it's little over an hour by car. The next day they are separated on the city tour. While designated as hate groups by the SPLC, none of the organizations is considered a domestic terrorist entity, and law enforcement officials have not accused any of them of conspiring to mount an attack on the Capitol.
Just how many extremist group members took part in the rioting is unclear. While QAnon boasts tens of thousands of adherents, several of the groups identified by the SPLC have far fewer members. The precise number taking part in the riots may never be known.
