Hi everyone,

I am a senior in Computer Science at KU. Some of my biggest interests include programming and software development, as well as digital content creation and communication.

For Google Summer of Code 2017, I am working on a video chat application for use with Liquid Galaxy and other devices that combines these interests. It is being developed using web technologies, and will be compatible with standard PCs as well as Liquid Galaxy setups. My plan is to build a general platform for sharing different types of data, so it can be easily extended to add additional capabilities in the future.

I think that open source software is important for consumers and developers alike, and I am excited to be a part of this community and learn more about the inner workings of open source software creation!

Hi Patrick, glad to see you'll be working on the perennial promise of multi-user video collaboration on the Galaxy clustered screens!

We've had several goes at this and so far nothing has really stuck.
At this stage don't get too carried away with anything besides the basic coordination of the screen displays so the Galaxy becomes a giant multi-screen display with portrait-oriented video feeds coming in from the remote participants (one per node).

I did a mockup with Google Hangouts and SikuliX (from MIT) a few years ago, just on a test 3 PC setup...

For brainstorming and design purposes imagine a PC with 7 LCD screens.

The key difference with the Galaxy rigs is
-- the portrait oriented screens, which we can take advantage of.
-- 5-7 separate LCD displays, so we can run a number of fullscreen video feeds (at full HD resolution!).

Think of the scenario where all the callers are OTHER Galaxy rigs... since that's the one that is particularly interesting and unique to our situation.

Happy to chat offline or add notes to any of your design ideas.
