The demo show simple webgl visualisation of pre-recorded performance captures from a Vicon tracking system.Andrew
Last year I had some undergrads adapt this tool to render joint point cloud from Kinect 2 and LeapMotion sensors on a capture PC and stream them to a vis PC with protobuf over binary websockets. That project was aimed at pianist playing duets not dancers, hence the Leap Motion hand capture. With the idea to do a live capture of a performance, stream the data, and represent it using rigged avatars on wrap-around Liquid Galaxy screens.

Nice to meet you, Natalie. I was also a CS major with a Dance minor! I did ballroom for about ten years at BYU. Looks like drill is your specialty? I was always in awe of the discipline those dancers have to get that tight synchronicity. BYU does formation ballroom which is probably the closest relative to that style, and I always thought technology ought to be able to help people train. Something like a kinect localizing body position precisely and giving you realtime feedback on where you are vs where you're supposed to be. The artistic possibilities are pretty neat too. I found the kinect skeleton tracking libraries really hard to work with, but libfreenect was easy to get a depth map out of, which was enough to do simple artistic effects. But I guess the standards are higher these days:

Hi everyone,I'm Natalie Monger. I'm originally from Dallas, Texas, but I'm currently attending the USC Viterbi School of Engineering for my Bachelor's in Computer Science & Business Administration. I also have been dancing my entire life, so I'm pursuing a Minor in Dance as well. I'm super excited to be working with Liquid Galaxy this summer. As you can see by my unique degrees of study of engineering and dance, I'm a very creative person and love seeing technology come to life. I think I'll bring a unique perspective to Galaxy this summer and I hope to exceed the expectations that I have set for myself on this project. I hope to hear from you all soon!~ Natalie
