Program for the first session:


9am start - 5pm finish/ Held at the ICV. 

Introduction to Australian politics, it's formal and informal structures (Tasnim Sammak)

Politicians, elections and the Australian media (Dr. Zachariah Matthews)

Muslim portrayal in the Australian media (Dr. Zachariah Matthews)

Discussion Panel: Role of the ciziten (Facilitated by Elizabeth Flynn)

Experience of Muslims engaged in politics (Samli Ozturk)

Directing questions at political leaders 

Morning tea and lunch will be included.

Once registered using this form, we will contact you to attend the first session on Sunday, 30th of March.

'Victorian Muslim Youth Forum: Awareness, Dialogue and Active Participation' is a partnership pilot project with the Islamic Council of Victoria and Famsy. The project aims to introduce selected Muslim Youth to the Australian political system, through discussions of active citizenship and an overview of formal and informal structures. The interaction between Muslim youth and politicians will allow for dialogue and exchange between both parties providing a platform to share their diverse experiences.

This program aims to achieve a number of objectives:
- Raise awareness and introduce Muslim youth to the Australian political model both its formal and informal structures
- Begin a conversation about political action and avenues for active participation
- Bring Muslim participants and politicians together on a platform for dialogue
- Provide politicians with a better understanding of the diverse experiences and issues that are important to Muslims

You will need the following to be eligible for the program:
- Muslim by faith
- Between the ages of 16 and 30
- Able to attend the first event on Sunday, 30th of March
- Able to attend the second event on the 17th of April
- Have an interest in political action
- Willing to actively participate in both sessions
