The longtime General Manager of the Curtis manufacturing plan in Sofia, Bulgaria, has announced his retirement. The highly respected Mr. Peter Popov will end his career at the place where it all began 33 years ago, having served Curtis Balkan since its inception.
The foundation of his career with Curtis started when Mr. Popov took a job at Balkancar, which had a joint venture with Curtis, as one of the first American companies to penetrate the Eastern European market. In 1990, after Curtis and BalkanCar started their joint venture, he joined Curtis as Shop Manager and was subsequently promoted again to Managing Director in 1994.
In 2000, Curtis Balkan opened a new 25,000 sq. ft. (2323 sq. meters) custom designed manufacturing plant that we still occupy today. At time of this writing, Curtis Balkan has produced over 2 million motor controllers.
Dr. Papazyan earned a PhD in Electrical Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, and an Executive MBA Master's Degree from the University of Sheffield, England. He serves as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Sofia.
