Howmany and which complications you want in a watch is a matter of preference. Dressier watches tend to be sleek and have one (usually the date) to none. More sporty and casual watches often include more complications.
In the 1950s, Rolex board member Ren-Paul Jeanneret wanted a watch that would be useful for when he went diving (a hobby he actively pursued) but still looked good as an everyday time piece. The Rolex Submariner was born and the standard for dive watches everywhere was set. Most dive watches on the market today take their design cues from the Submariner.
Signature Features: A dive watch is first and foremost water resistant. The standard for a dive watch is to be water resistant up to at least 100m, though some keep ticking at even lower depths.
When to Wear: While the dive watch was designed for underwater use, its all-metal casing and band, plus its iconic heritage, make it a suitable wristwatch for versatile everyday wear. You can don it with your sports wear, casual wear, business causal wear, and business formal wear. And if you take your style cues from James Bond, you can even get away with wearing a dive watch with a tux.
The general rule is if the circumference of your wrist is 6 to 7 inches, you want to go with a watch that has a case diameter of 38-42 mm wide. If your wrist is larger than 7 inches, then you can go with cases that are 44-46 mm wide.
Well, there you go. A guide to the world of horology. While we got pretty comprehensive in this article, we only scratched the surface on wristwatches. If this topic interests you, I highly recommend checking out sites dedicated to all things wristwatches. A few of my favorites include Worn and Wound, Hodinkee, and A Blog to Watch. Gear Patrol also does some bang-up write-ups on watches.
My Airpods Pro are already paired to my Iphone 13 And apple watch SE, It said's so in the Bluetooth settings (Lists them in My Devices). The problem is that whenever I open my Airpods case and take out the Airpods pro, it will automatically say connected on my Iphone 13 (Pic 1) and play music on my Iphone 13 immediately to my Airpods Pro but when I go to play music from my Apple SE it says "Choose where to play Audio" giving me the option to choose the Airpods Pro but its not connecting and playing to it automatically like my Iphone 13 (Pic 2). Is this just a normal thing about the Apple Watch SE, or is it not suppose to act like that?
ALSO NOTE: My Apple Watch SE only saids this when I take them out of their case. Once I select my Airpods Pro from ""Choose where to play Audio" it stays connected, it only makes me pick "Choose where to play Audio" when I put them back in the case and take them out again which isn't a huge hassle but still kinda annoying.
Once I tap on my airpods it then connects and stays connected when going through and selecting different songs from my apple watch SE. It only brings up "Choose where to play Audio" when I put my airpods back in the case and bring them out again. Like I said up above, the moment I take them out of my case they pair and play instantly to my iphone fine just not the watch, don't know if that's a normal thing or not.
After Watches & Wonders, we're all a bit exhausted by new watch releases, so we decided it was time to do something fun: Another fantasy watch draft. And this time, we're tightening the parameters to get some more variety on the table. So I called up Danny, James, and Jonathan to build a four-watch collection with me.
We're focused on our favorite watches of the 21st century. Any watch available to purchase in 2000 or later was eligible, except for the new releases we saw at Watches & Wonders a couple of weeks ago. Here's the big rule: Once a watch has been picked from a brand, NO other watch from that brand can be picked (i.e., once someone has chosen a Rolex, no one else can choose a Rolex in any category). Honestly, after our last draft when three of us picked Rolex sports watches, I wanted to get more variety on the table, and there has been so much good watchmaking in the last 24 years. The hope was that the draft would be a fun way to remember some of the best watches of the 21st century, so far. We also didn't choose any piece uniques or one-offs.
Check out our full fantasy collections below, make sure to vote for your favorite, and maybe even tell us what your four-watch fantasy collection would be. Even better, tell us what type of fantasy draft we should do next.
At the end of the day, you should wear what you like. Consider these watches not as recommendations, but as starting points. Which features do you like? Which do you dislike? Your perfect everyday watch is specific to you. Choosing the right one is just a matter of trial and error. What's your current everyday watch?
This is not helpful at all. What are the height and width of the watch?
When it sits on my wrist, how wide is it? 1.75 inches is wider than my wrist, but I understand that is the diagonal measurement, not the width.
By height I mean the 2-dimensional height of the rectangle, not how deep it is.
(Depth is given elsewhere as 12+ mm - kind of thick.)
so I have been speaking quite a bit to Wyze about the watch sizes as our roles as mavens is usually to help in circumstances such as these. here is the information if anyone needs it as this has seemed to come up quite a bit lately.
I hope this helps anyone looking for further clarification and I am going to tag the @Mavens Just incase this question comes up again elsewhere so this information can be disseminated and people can make the best decision in their purchase. hope this helps.
I believe that watch sizes are subjective, but there is a way to know what should be a correct size so you do not look silly with a huge watch or a watch that seems underwhelming.
One thing that struck me was how their training is so scientific and data driven, though the numbers that they are really paying attention to when they are running are only just a few specific pieces of data.
During my athletic career I have used GPS watch models from all the main brands available on the market: Garmin, Polar, Suunto and now COROS, which is the one I am mostly happy with. Besides the accuracy with COROS watches, the possibility to customize its data fields and analytics make it a very useful tech tool for training.
My COROS Apex 46mm is really simple and straightforward to use. Two simple reasons why I like it are that it is not touchscreen (something that is somewhat annoying if, for example, you need to change screens while running) and that it only has two buttons.
In reality, I do look at my GPS watch while running: most of the time to check whether my feelings correspond to the actual data, and other times to check the time, distance, elevation etc during my workouts.
Another parameter typically displayed by many GPS models available on the market is VO2max, something that I get a lot of questions about, especially by the more experienced runners that I coach here at Vert.run.
Since I started using my COROS Apex two years ago, my VO2max has only fluctuated between 64 and 67 ml/kg/min. How can we realistically expect to determine how fit we are as trail runners based on a number that basically does not change?
This is mainly because those predictions are based on and built for road runners, not for athletes who train and compete on the trails. So, again, not knowing exactly how these predictions are calculated, but knowing that they are not really reliable for trail athletes, why would we be influenced by them?
A good aid station plan can make a great race out of one that you thought about dropping out of earlier on. A poor strategy can cause you to have to drop from lack of fueling needs, unattended injuries, or faulty equipment. Plan for what you can, train consistently, and anything else that happens is out of your control. Enjoy the process and learn forward!
A strength routine plays a key role in your development as a trail runner. We need to prepare our bodies to withstand the impact of running long downhills; to avoid fatigue (and thus avoid falling) in technical sections; and to be a strong, compact ally to our minds during climbs.
A well-chosen watch should express a person's personality. If we buy a watch for someone else, we have to think about their character, status and lifestyle. A wife or girlfriend with an eye for detail and a fondness for quality materials will not be too enthusiastic about a plastic case and stopwatch. For some, the weight and size of the watch or the material of the glass may be important. For individuals with narrow wrists, it is generally better to choose a watch with a smaller case diameter. On the contrary, extravagant people tend to reach for distinctive and imaginative watches.
Therefore, always try to empathize with the person for whom you are choosing a watch. What does he like, what accessories does he wear, is he more of a technical, social or sporty type?
A representative watch suitable for company. Since this is one of the few men's accessories, it should match the others (ring, tie, etc.). Emphasis is placed on detail, simple design and quality workmanship. Mineral glass and a lower degree of waterproofing will suffice. We should choose between a leather strap or a steel pull. We recommend only a leather version of the strap for the suit.
Fishermen, divers, active athletes, trainers, but also people who often move in demanding, wet and dusty environments. Such users need to buy a properly equipped watch. A high degree of water resistance (200m and more) and a sapphire crystal should be a matter of course. We can choose from a wide range of strap materials, but we do not recommend a leather strap for frequent contact with water. For individuals who work with time, a stopwatch (chronograph) and a rotating bezel are nice additions. A compass may come in handy for hikers.
