I recently changed internet providers and since having the new service my MP5650 won't prompt to let me enter th epassword for the wifi. I've reset my wifi, attempted to reinstall the software on my computer, and reset factory settings on the printer.

Incidentally, if you add a wifi router and this new router has not 802.11r active, it would work - and funny thing is it will work even after you remove that router (if you use same SSID and WPA2 key). But the reason behind is 802.11r disabled, not the fact you have added a router.

Not if you are using Tmobile home internet or any other service where you can not turn off the roaming feature 802.11r. I my case I just added a Wifi repeater to my network and then my printer would prompt for the wifi repeater password. Spend $20 for repeater or get a different printer.

A Solution - I don't know if this is the only or best solution but it worked for me. Go into the router, log in, and enable WPS mode on the wifi channel you want. Go to the printer and find the dialog that lets you connect wifi using WPS Pin mode. This will give you an 8 digit pin to enter into your router. This is for the Hitron - Go to the WPS section of the Wireless tab on the router and select "PIN" next to WPS Mode. This will give you a box in which to enter the PIN from the printer. On the Hitron you then select the button labeled "Start". A progress bar will appear. When it is done, you should be connected.

I also have a Hitron router and your solution worked perfectly. I thought I had tried every possible way of connecting wirelessly to the network, including connecting using the printer driver. It never occurred to me to try WPS mode, or that the router might be at fault.

I've set my router up in Access Point mode (so that I can connect it to a wifi cable modem whose wifi has broken). Now I can't get to my WNDR3700v4 router login page. I've tried doing it over wife and by connecting ethernet cable straight from my computer to my WNDR3700v4. www.routerlogin.net doesn't work, nor www.routerlogin.com. No luck with 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2, 10.0.0.15, ( or

Really, the only reason I wanted to get back to the router login is so that I could have the device check for software updates in light of today's security flaw discovery. There must be some way to get this router to check for a software update (without completely resetting it to factory defaults)!

Most of the technological stuff you wrote went over my head. But it sounded like you were saying that the solution to this problem is for me to have set this up differently from the start...that I there's no way I can access the router login page now with it in its current configuration...that I have to reset and reinstall the Netgear wifi router. Is that correct?

FYI, I set up this router using its automated setup process. During that process it recommended I select "Access Point Mode." But I don't recall that it guided me to selecting a static IP address or anything else that sounds similar to what you wrote. I'm not saying you're incorrect. Just that the automated procedure didn't guide me to it, thus (apparently) leaving me with no way to ever access the router login again.

> [...] there's no way I can access the router login page now with it in

No, but you need to find it before you can talk to it by its address.

> Clients, or some equivalent thing).

I know approximately nothing about your cable modem+router, so I
can't offer any specific procedure to get the desired information from
it.

This totally worked. I downloaded and installed Advanced IP Scanner, ran a scan, found a line in the output that seemed to match my NETGEAR router, went to that address, entered the default name/password, and I was into Genie. Fantastic!

FYI, to anyone else out there with this problem (and it looked from my scans of the message boards that there were a few): the computer on which I ran the scan was connected by ethernet cable to the cable modem, not the access point and not wirelessly. I don't know if this would or would not find/connect to the NETGEAR router in access point mode if I had connected differently.

I'm able to access internet but when I type 192.168.1.1 in the browser address bar, I'm unable to get router access, the page just won't open and I'm not even reaching password screen whereas earlier I used to access for this same router.

Make sure you're connected directly. Some routers can be configured to not allow administration over Wi-Fi, or any other link not directly connected to the router. So, make sure your connection is via a cable run directly from your computer to the router with nothing else in between. Also, disable Wi-Fi on your computer to ensure that your machine is actually using the hard-line connection to reach the router.

Make sure you're using the right protocol. Some routers can be configured to only permit administration over HTTPS, and may not have an appropriate HTTP->HTTPS redirect in place. So, if -ip/ doesn't work, try -ip/.

Factory Reset If all else fails, just push the little red button and hold it for about 30 seconds. Bear in mind that this will of course erase any custom configuration you've done to the router, including administrator passwords and IP ranges.

I had this issue where 192.168.1.1 was directing me to the wrong router (the fios router that my wifi router was connected to). wasn't leading anywhere (nslookup showed that it didn't point to any IP address). I was online though, and I could connect to the router fine from other computers.

It turns out that my other computers were able to find the router via router.asus.com because they were having their DNS settings configured by the router. This one computer didn't work because I had set the DNS to 8.8.8.8.

This was my problem too and all of these useful solutions didn't help me... but I casually found that you have to remove all of devices connected to router, then you connect to router by one device only (by cable or any other ways)... and problem was solved.Hope be useful for you!

The Cat 5 network cable needs to be connected on Port 1 of the router and back too the computer for gateway access. The internet port on the router is only for the modem. Disable all WiFi adapters on your PC/laptop and do a reboot this will flush out your IP configuration and your BIOS this will allow a direct communication with the Ethernet card.

To connect your PIXMA MX490 to your new router, please use the WPS method. Please consult your router's documentation to determine how to enable WPS on the router. Once enabled, please follow these steps in this article to set up your PIXMA MX490 for wireless use using the WPS method:

I tried to use WPS but the MX490 cannot connect to the router. Is there any way to manually enter wifi password? Now the printer can find the wifi SSID but try to use empty password to connect to the router.

If the router they gave you is running WPA3, then you wont be able to connect the printer or get to the password screen during Standard Setup. Please click HERE for more information about WPA3 security.

I recommend changing the router settings to WPA2 and then try using the standard setup to connect the printer. At this point your network will appear and you will be able to enter your password and connect the printer.

I was having the same issue, but saw your advice and followed it. I have Google Wifi network, and saw within the google home app to toggle off WPA3, Once I did this my network restarted in my home and from there I was able to get the password field to populate on this old MX490 and get the printer on the network. Thank you.

I might be missing something obvious but I have been trying to connect my travel router in hotspot mode to the office wifi which includes a username and a password. The router finds the Wifi but the wizzard does not give me the opportunity to add the username, just the password. Any idea how to proceed here?

Were the username and password specifically given to you for use with that hidden network (the one with the empty SSID and MAC 78:45:58:21:06:60) or are these credentials meant to be used for the network "Boutique"?

In case it's the latter, than the password for the hidden network is probably different. If the hidden network does indeed use WPA2-PSK security, then there should only be a password, but no username.

@woozle Thanks again for taking time to answer. So, with my laptop, I can connect to the boutique network (with my username and password) and ultimately I would want my router to connect to that. If I connect to the one with SSID Boutique, where do I input the username?

If you want to access a router outside your network, enable Remote Administration. You'll also need to know the router's external IP address to make this work so that you can enter that address into the browser. However, this type of connection isn't guaranteed even if the remote admin setting is on since the IP address can easily change (if it's a dynamic IP, which most home networks are).

This restores the router to its default condition with the default IP address, username, and password that it shipped with initially. You'll lose any customizations you've made, including Wi-Fi networks and port forwarding rules.

To log in to your router on your phone, connect to your Wi-Fi network, install the mobile app for your router, then create an account or log in. From the app, you can change your Wi-Fi password, improve network security, enable remote access, and more.

The main difference between a modem and a router is that the modem actually connects to the internet. The router disperses your internet connection to devices through your home and can provide Wi-Fi connections as well.
