Myfriend's friend , was able to copy files from it to his macbook, but wasn't able to copy files to it without some trial software, or formatting it. Because of ithe amount of other stuff on it, formatting was not an option, so we ended up using a smaller hard drive and transferring them 500 gb at a time.
With expedited shipping - the estimated delivery time was exactly 5 days from when I ordered (I ordered on a thursday and it came on a tuesday). Without, it was 13 to 23 days (this accounts for non-working days), so unless you are ordering a few weeks in advance, the $30.96 is worth it.
The only con is I don't think you can password the harddrive. (Ofcourse you can encrypt the files you store on it - taking care of that problem) I used winrar for this so I guess the con doesn't really make a difference. And also - I found passwording my other external harddrive to be a pain in the ass when I later tried to boot from it.
I'd give this 100/100, does what it's meant to do, had no problems, durable, doesn't get hot and no password doesn't cause any problems. And after the camera raws, I still have more space remaining than my 3 500gb harddrives put together, so big + for its space - I don't think i'll be buying another harddrive for several years.
I'm going to reformat the 2TB version to BrtFS I think. Then again, I'm assuming you use Windows so that leaves you with little choice regarding filesystem. The only con I've noticed so far is the sound it produces, it's not much - but you surely can hear it when your more than 50 cm away - maybe your desk is setup differently.

When looking at external hard drives, most reviewers only look at capacity, pricing and performance. DTI Data Recovery looks at these things, but has a focus on the stability of the external hard drive and its ability to withstand heat and not need hard drive recovery. The Seagate FreeAgent Pro is a FireWire400, USB 2.0, eSATA external hard drive that is built to last. Even though Seagate is actually a competitor of ours, they acquired ActionFront Hard Drive Recovery a couple years ago, we would be remiss not to look at their products in the interest of our readers.
I am not sure how you base your opinion but a quick check on the net shows that a lot of people have had problems with this model. Stability is a major issue and the potential loss of 500 GB of information is painful to say the least. None of the other features of any external hard is important if one cannot access the drive itself.
Additionally the technical support is minimal. After my personal experience with this model I would not recommend its purchase.
Going by our initial research and criteria, for each round of testing we settle on external desktop hard drives and portable models to evaluate. We first test them using the benchmarking program HD Tune. For a more real-world measurement, we then time the transfer of a 15 GB folder including a Blu-ray movie and a 31 GB folder of music. We perform each test six times, and we determine the average read and write speeds to rule out performance hiccups.
Mechanical desktop hard drives will be rarer as time goes on, replaced by SSDs. The latest desktop SSDs out the gate, like the SanDisk Desk Drive, are much more expensive than our pick for a similar capacity, but prices are sure to come down over time.
The Seagate Expansion drive performed fine in our large-file transfer tests but had the slowest speeds of any desktop drive we tested in our small-file transfer tests. It also disconnected itself from our PC without warning in the midst of testing and failed to connect again afterward.
The Toshiba Canvio Flex was a pick in a previous version of this guide. The Canvio Flex and Canvio Advance Plus come with USB-A and USB-C cables, but both drives still have a Micro-B connector on the body. The more durable USB-C port and the higher capacity of our new pick, the Western Digital My Passport Ultra, make it a more attractive option.
For the past six years, 5TB has been the highest capacity reached by traditional hard disk drives in the 2.5-inch category. I reviewed one from Seagate, the Backup Plus, in 2019. At the heart of all the six 5TB portable hard drives sold by Seagate is a 5TB Barracuda internal HDD, the ST5000LM000, which spins at 5400RPM and has a 128MB cache.
Three things that are notable about this drive are (a) it is thicker than average (15mm) thanks to the extra platters it carries, (b) it is more expensive than external hard drives that use it: $129 when we last checked on Amazon (c) it has a two-year warranty whereas all Seagate external hard drives have three-year warranties by default.
The Seagate Ultra Touch will touch a chord for those who want to buy the most ecological product in any category regardless of price. Made of 30% of post recycled material, this portable hard drive fits the bill.
At the time of writing, the Seagate Ultra Touch is up to 40% more expensive than the Seagate Portable or the Seagate Expansion, both similar in features and form factor. Such a price tag makes it difficult to justify purchasing the Ultra Touch other Seagate products in the same category.

Seagate is well known in the storage space, building not only the internal drives but enclosures as well. Most drives in the Seagate lineup are mass-market consumer devices, while LaCie represents Seagate's professional line.
We aren't huge fans of the slim Micro-B connector but they get used frequently with external hard drives. As the cable is a USB-A cable, you may need to use a hub or adapter with your Mac if solely has USB-C ports.
In our case, we just picked up one of the widely-available USB-C to Micro-B cables found on Amazon. We'd prefer a USB-C cable in the box, but plenty of people still rely on USB-A, and replacement cables are easy to come by in a pinch.
The enclosure has a striped appearance with angled lines along the plastic body. The top, rear, and bottom have hidden vents that allow airflow to the hard drive. They're in between the lines that make them near-invisible at a glance.
We hooked the drive up to our Mac, and the drive was formatted in ExFat by default. As ExFat, it can work with both Mac or Windows PCs out of the box, but you can easily reformat it into the more Apple-specific APFS or leave it in ExFat for universal access.
You can get faster drives that have hard drives in a raid formation or that use SSD, but they'll cost you notably more. If you have no need for additional speed, the Seagate Expansion will get the job done without breaking the bank.
Wait, this is a new drive enclosure being released with that janky extended micro-usb port? And that's the only option?
I guess its otherwise a pretty reasonable price for 8TB, but wow
also I connect a sd card to my ps3 I can save the saved games but not the games which make the sd card useless
since its the games that takes space not really the SAVED games please reply thanks in advance
Seagate Back up plus 8tB second unit as first failed within one month, well not total fail just a very loud clicking and stuttering in write times. Second they sent showed signs of use but has now failed after over 12 months. Such a lot on it. When it reached half full we noticed the loud click noise got worse and write times increased. Finally all we have is a continuous click drive not accessible. Tried seagate seatools but that and no other drive programs can read anything, no boot,no read. just click click click. We have had enough and will use WD drives from now on.
To be fair, I have worked in IT for a long time, starting off as a sysadmin and into digital forensics where I am always using external drives. I have had my fair share of failed drives. In the past, I saw a lot of Seagate fails and stayed with WD for years. However, in the last 5 years I have had a fair few WD fails too and am back to using more Seagate again. I think whichever brand you get its still a lottery whether it fails or not.
