As most books and magazines use an ISBN or ISSN with a barcode It would be great if Affinity Publisher had a barcode generator built in.
Is this on the road map for V2 in 2023? though it would make a great Christmas present for 2022 ?
Otherwise does anyone know of a Windows Barcode generator that is inexpensive? This is for a quaterly magazine for a charity.
Such a feature is actually not that difficult to create. There are even specialised fonts. Having it built directly into the Affinity suite would be a major bonus, saving us the time of typing the code into a free specialist site and then formatting the image for each book publication.
Ideally a simple highlighting of the number in the book as a page number or whatever should automatically create the barcode with the dimensions, colour, text etc. if the functionality was well designed.
Serial numbers are a fantastic example. And while I personally prefer to digitize stuff that was originally handwritten so it can be copied and pasted (and easily read!) it could definitely be useful to quickly "acquire" some important information that way for use later on. Thanks for mentioning that!
Hello! So I had a thought the other day. I was trying to keep track of all my rewards / store cards, and it's no easy task. Physical cards aren't an option for me, so I've always used either Key Ring or Stocard. Stocard is probably the best, but it still has serious issues that make me not want to use it. Then other day I started using 1Password (which is really amazing...) and I saw the Reward Program section. I thought to myself, "It would be great if I could put all my reward card info/numbers in here and have stores scan a barcode!", and the idea was born. Everything is already built into 1Password for me to replace Stocard besides a barcode generator and a picture editor/adder if it doesn't auto-populate an image with a webpage link. It would be amazing if you would consider adding that feature. Thank you! :)
PS: Speaking of image editor/adder, that would be great in the apps all around. If an image doesn't auto-populate with a URL, I would love to be able to add one myself to keep things pretty and clean. 8-)
I will say though that there's one pretty big impediment to this being useful. I already scan or take pictures of this stuff to store in 1Password, and occasionally that helps...but in far too many cases, the scanners in use out there are 80s-era technology and can't read from the reflective/illuminated screen on my iPhone. Dang. :unamused:
+1 a lot of tools (lemon wallet, apple pay ) are doing it ... should we leave 1password for this part ? @brenty : apple pay is scanning card and creating value from it. not sure it is an 80s-area technology ...
@fjacquet: My mistake. It looks like barcode scanners came into widespread use in the 1970s. Since they're using lasers and not photographic cameras (as your iPhone is for Apple Pay), devices based on this technology cannot read information off of reflective screens. That's what I'm referring to.
Apple Pay is great, but there's an infrastructure there. We don't have any plans to build a 1Password payment network though. So while someday I'm sure that it will be awesome to have everything in our pockets without having to carry around all these physical cards, in most stores it's still impossible to use something like that. Glad that contactless payments and chip/PIN cards (in spite of their security failings) are forcing businesses to upgrade their equipment though. :)
No, sorry. We've been using the term "vote" when it comes to feature requests, but we're trying to get away from that. It gives the wrong impression, frankly. What features are included in 1Password are not decided democratically.
it would be insanely awesome if I could add the company name, and then use the camera to scan the bar code in, and have both the number and the barcode available to show the cashier on those occasions where it would be useful.
+1 for this feature. I was just telling my wife that we could use 1PW instead of Cardstar but attaching photos is a multiple step process that makes it difficult for a nontechnical person. Need to include a barcode scanner and picks up the number and also displays the barcode for easy use.
You can take a look on barracuda package that directly generate PDF vector graphics with an internal Lua library. So, it works with any Lua-based typesetting engine like LuaLaTeX, filling inside an hbox the symbols.A minimal example with the barracuda.sty LaTeX package is showed here:
There is the ean13isbn package: there is the GS1 package: Both can produce EAN8 and EAN13. But I am completely disappointed that both packages use bitmap fonts (not outline fonts) for the digits below the barcode. If, in case of the GS1 package, I turn off the usage of the ocrb font, the result looks bad. The numbers are too close to the barcode. The ean13isbn package doesn't have many options it seems. And I am not really sure how I set a different font. For both packages however, the barcode itself it not a bitmap which should be a good thing as far as print quality is concerned.
And then we have this online ISBN barcode generator: This is the best one I have found so far in the sense that (1) it generates PDFs with vector graphics and (2) the PDF contains the text as outlines. There are no pixels whatsoever in the PDF. However, the text font is not embedded in the PDF. I'm pretty sure it can be abused for EAN13 codes in general, if one clips the ISBN text away.
Use the CGI form below to generate a printable and scan-able barcode in Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 39, Code 128 A, B, or C symbologies. This free service can be used to generate individual barcodes or called via URL's to include inline PNG or JPEG images directly into your documents.
For the ability to design and print your own barcodes, check out our barcode generator software from Seagull Scientific, Teklynx, and Niceware. We also have a wide selection of barcode labels to choose from, or fill out our custom label form to have one of our experts provide you a quote and lead time on your very own custom labels.
A common barcode type used for various labels such as name badges, inventory, and industrial applications. The symbology consists of symbols representing numbers, upper-case letters, and some special characters.
Barcodes and QR codes are simply information that has been put into a visual form that machines can read. This allows for automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) which means collecting information from a person, thing, image or sound without having to enter the data by hand.
Barcodes can be generated in a few different ways. You can use a barcode font for manual creation, a point of sale (POS) retail system, a portable barcode printer, barcode software or use an online software to generate barcodes. See Barcode Sequential Numbering for a step-by-step guide on adding sequential numbers. Check out Qr and Barcode Merge to learn more about creating a barcode.
A QR code generator is a tool that generates different types of QR codes. You can create QR Codes to open a website URL, view a PDF file, listen to music, watch videos, store image files, connect to a WiFi network, and more. You can buy QR code labels from Avery or another trusted provider.
Qr codes can be generated easily with Avery Design & Print software. Simply choose Add QR Code in the customization screen and select whether you want to add text, a phone number, email, URL, Vcard or MeCard your QR code. Check out Qr and Barcode Merge to learn more about creating a Qr code.
In certain cases, yes barcodes are standardized. If you are creating your own barcode system, you can make your barcodes using any system or standard you choose. However, barcodes used in retail, such as UPC codes and EAN codes, are very much standardized. There are also standards for where barcode labels should be placed when shipping packages, pallets and containers.
GS1 is a nonprofit organization with branches in the US, Canada, China, the UK, Germany, India, Malta and Australia that helps standardize the global language of business. This includes barcodes, barcode labels and barcode placement. GS1 barcode labeling standards are industry-standard and essential to the proper use of barcodes on products and packaging from your supply chain all the way to point of sale.
