Obituary for Donald Raymond Jones

Donald Raymond Jones, 82, of Akron, Indiana passed on Friday, May 1, 2026 at his daughter’s residence.

Don was born on March 15, 1944 in Rochester, Indiana to the late Raymond and Arvada (Barnes) Jones. He was a 1963 graduate of Akron High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1971. He married on Aug. 13, 1983 in Columbia City, Ind. to Dora R. Leininger, who preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2018.

Don worked several places throughout the years, which included International Harvester for 10 years, he was a semi truck driver for Overland Trucking Company, and finally retired from Pike Lumber Company after 25 years as a forklift operator.

He was a longtime Akron Lions Club member. Don was a past-president and enjoyed the monthly fish fry. His home was one of the locations for the fry signs to help advertise. He also was a member of the Akron United Methodist, where he helped with maintenance of the church and parsonage. He also was involved with church group missions. He was a part of Promise Keepers and served on the Pastor Parish committee.

Don enjoyed watching TV, especially westerns, and golfing. He was fond of the western United States and always loved to spend time with his grandson.

He is survived by his daughter Kathryn and husband Jason Furnivall of Warsaw;
grandson Leaf and wife Mandee Furnivall; brother Ron and wife Mary Jones of Bremen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dora, and brothers Jim, Ken, and Jack.

Following his wishes, no services will be held.

The arrangements have been entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana.

Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Akron Lions Club or the Akron United Methodist Church.
