I took your class sometime this summer and I now have an 85 yr old
brewing and drinking the KT. She has white hair, but last week she
went to have it done and her hairdresser commented that she thought
her hair was getting darker. She is now drinking twice as much each
day! A question I have is: My scoby gets thicker, but I never really
see 2 distinct ones. Usually just a film layer that does not peel off
in one piece. I keep reusing the orginal, how long can I do that?
Also, where did you buy large sack of organic sugar?

Wow that's great! We occassionally hear of Kombucha turning gray hair
back to its original color, so we'll see this may be another one of
those miracles!
If you really want a new scoby, you can "grow" them - put Kombucha in
a mason jar (without a scoby) and leave it covered for a couple of
weeks. But otherwise it's fine to use the same SCOBY basically
forever. Some people swear by keeping the SCOBY handed down to them
by their great great grandmother and discarding the new ones.
We now buy our sugar from a distributor - Glory Bee from Eugene - but
you can get a big 25 or 50 lb. bag at New Seasons. Just call ahead
and they can usually have it ready right away or at least within a few
days. Thanks for the questions!
