I was shocked with how fast this was delivered to me in the US, also, the package was made perfectly, super safe! Eunseok is my bias and I was so happy with this, I wish it had more photocards in it, but it's all good. I also got an extra one from Sungchan which made me super happy
I was shocked with how fast this was delivered to me in the US, also, the package was made perfectly, super safe! With that being said, Jungsu's version for troubleshooting is SO freaking cute, the most adorable photocards ever!!! Totally worth the buy
I was shocked with how fast they delivered my order, also, the package was perfectly done. For the album set, Minje and Masami are my favorites and I literally got their postcards and PC's, so I couldn't be any happier! I wish them the best of luck, they are a wonderful boy group and deserve all the success
This album I discovered today after hearing from a friend that this group was another persons favorite kpop group and I decided well how about I give these guys a listen this group consists of seven members here's a few facts. about them.
What I like about this album is its upbeat tempo. At first, I didn't expect to hear this after listing to their first album yesterday. To be honest I expected something less hype and a slower tempo. but every song is on point. From A's fast danceable beat compared to forever young slow R&B tempo. you get the perfect mix of songs if you want to listen to an album where all the songs don't sound the same listen to this. You can get quite a variety.
today's album of the week was going to be a Korean band doing a Japanese album but there was a change of plans and I decided to do someone else. Because I kept listening to that someone's station and my favorite song from my favorite album from them showed up and I was like why not the other one can wait.
I discovered Ateez by a coincidence. My favorite Tiktoker's sister kept mentioning Ateez on her Twitter and how she was such a huge fan of them. Curiosity got the best of me and I'm glad they did because Ateez has become my second favorite kpop band.
Anyways that's enough about my discovery journey lets talk about the album. So this album genre is in between Kpop, hip-hop, and R&B. This album was released on October 8th, 2019. The genre mix is perfectly spread out on this album giving you a smooth listen. (I hope to buy this album.)
Well, I had to keep it short and simple. That's it for this week and don't forget to look forward to next week's post I have a surprise for you all. (Hint the next album is from my number one favorite K-pop group their pretty popular so you may know them.)
I got Sua, she is my bias, and I was so happy when I saw it. Sadly I only got 1 PC of her, which I understand is random, but I was hoping to get all Sua like it was the case with Yoohyeon. Still, I love this girls so I'm still happy with it. Thank you Music Plaza for such well done package and the freebies!
This is the 2nd time I order from Music Plaza and they are very careful with their packages, thank you so much! As for the album, it's great, I am very happy with my purchase, Minje is my bias and getting his PC and his scratch card was a huge win! The pictures are great and I love their music, if you are thinking of getting it, you should definitely do it!
All albums that have sold over one million copies in South Korea are by Korean artists, with the exception of Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard (1992) and Mariah Carey's Music Box (1993). BTS is the act with the most million-selling albums, having twelve, followed by Seventeen, with ten. In 2017, BTS' Love Yourself: Her became the first album released since 2001 to sell over 1 million copies,[11][12] while in 2018 the band's Love Yourself: Answer became the first to sell over 2 million copies since 2000.[13] In 2019, the band's Map of the Soul: Persona became the first album to sell over 3 million copies since 1997. This was followed by Map of the Soul: 7, which became the first album in chart history to surpass 4 and 5 million sales, in 2020 and 2022 respectively.[14][15] Seventeen's FML became the first album to sell over 6 million copies, in 2023.[16] In 2013, the combined sales of Exo's XOXO and its repackage exceeded 1 million copies,[17] while in 2019 BTS became the first act to sell 1 million copies of both an album and its repackage, when Wings and You Never Walk Alone each surpassed 1 million sales that year.

In addition to those enticing features, K-pop artists have mastered the art of album packaging, creating elaborate and beautiful album designs that make them a must-have for fans. No matter what genre of music you create, you can learn from K-pop packaging aesthetics and sensibilities, and the value the CD packages provide K-pop fans.
K-pop packaging stands out for its innovative and imaginative design concepts. From intricate origami-like structures to interactive elements, these albums go beyond the traditional CD case to create a memorable unboxing experience.
K-pop albums typically include photo books filled with high-quality images of the artists, showcasing different visual themes and concepts. These photo books not only provide fans with stunning visuals but also tell a story that complements the music and concept of the album.
K-pop albums often come with random photo cards, giving fans an element of surprise and excitement when unboxing the album. These photo cards feature individual members or group shots and serve as collectible items that fans can trade with each other. Additionally, packaging often includes posters, featuring larger images of the artists that fans can display in their rooms or share on social media.
K-pop albums often come in various packaging formats, including slipcases, box sets, and custom packages. Slipcases are outer covers that slide over the main album case, providing additional protection and a visually appealing layer. Box sets are larger, often housing multiple albums or additional merchandise, such as photo books or DVDs. Custom packages may feature pop-up elements, textured materials, or other unique design features that make the album stand out.
K-pop packaging plays a significant role in building a strong and loyal fan base. The attention to detail and thoughtfulness put into the packaging shows fans that their support is valued. As fans engage with the album and its contents, they feel a deeper sense of connection to the artists.
Limited-edition packaging and collectible items create a sense of exclusivity. Owning a rare version or obtaining a coveted photo card enhances the feeling of being part of an exclusive community. This sense of exclusivity motivates fans to invest in physical albums.
the discussion about fraud sales is growing stale because regardless of how many unique individual purchasers there are, recorded music is an industry and is driven by profit, not the amount of listeners who only casually listen to a song. The popularity is usually really frontloaded in kpop but that stops mattering when a high profile kpop release is doing more streams and sales up front than a lot of A-list western acts manage in whole album cycles.
Relatively small(compared to the American big 3) kpop companies are also now regularly coming up with acts that generate hundreds of millions of dollars in a way some major western labels are struggling to do in the streaming era. This is very interesting and uncharted waters for the music industry as a whole and people who haven't taken idol groups as seriously in the past should be looking closer. The implications of this are huge(Even Taylor who needs 0 help with popularity is starting to incorporate some kpop strategies)
Tbh, the users suggesting they're not selling music but rather more like merch are accurate. I happen to actually listen to my physical K-pop CDs but I am in a tiny minority. These sales are about photocards & the collecting aspect of things, and it's just completely exploded in the last few years.
It's not even really fair to compare it to pop girl sales, because we're not comparing apples to apples. The closest equivalent thing you have in the West is vinyl, and sales of that are also continuously increasing. It's just that fandom/collecting is a much bigger thing in Asia while it does remain niche outside of gays/hispters in the west
aside from that, it always surprises me how seventeen pull those numbers. because i barely know online friends or people irl that stans them (even on atrl, not a lot of them). must be a different audience that they attract i guess.
Their music has been stale for a while, but what increases the album sales are the photocards. I think it was actually Seventeen last year that had an album with over 100 photocards and stans who want to get their favorite artist usually purchase a ton of album versions to get their bias, and obviously there are fans who want to collect all of those pcs.
I was working on a show with a group of teens that were passionate and obsessive about this music (more specifically the group BTS). As research for the show I started looking into the band and quickly fell down this YouTube rabbit hole of music videos and interviews. Suddenly it was hours later and I recognized that feeling of newly found passion that I love so much.
Over a beautiful bottle of ros we started by watching YouTube videos, talking about our biases, and so on and so forth. Then she showed me her albums and my heart skipped a beat. You see, K-Pop albums are book-based creations. When you buy an album it comes in a book that is full of pictures and lyrics and photo cards to collect and so on. This was a moment of pure magic for me as I got to see my new passion reflected back at me in an incredible novel form. Here are some examples of what albums might look like and some book pairings to help lead your discovery.
