Is there a way you can make adjustments to Gnome's screensavers the
same way you can in XFCE? It seems like all that gnome-screensavers
lets you do is pick a module and preview it prior to selecting it.
Kinda' nice that you can page through the modules in full screen and
make your selection there though.

Last time I checked the Gnome team are trying to
make Gnome super easy to use by having nothing
that requires more than the smallest amount of
thought.
The best thing that I can think of to remedy this is to look
up your Gnome related dot files and edit something there
to adjust the command line settings of a screen saver.
You can find what they are by typing at your terminal
cd /usr/libexec/xscreensaver
./$yourScreenSaver -h
