I have a program library requiring libraries of X11 and Xext. Either
they are not in the correct directory, or more likely, I don't have
them. I am somewhat new to linux, so perhaps I am in error. My question
is, where can I obtain these 2 libraries? Thanks!

You should already have these librarys if you are running  X11, you need to edit the path. I don't know what path the libraries are under, but if you can find them, then link to them in the directories that the program is searching in.

I've had this sort of problem before, and this usually solves it. Just search some of the common library directories (/lib /usr/lib etc.) for that name.

What is the name of the actual library, libX11 and libXext? I would
think so... Is there a chance that they could be in a different
directory also? Thanks!

Oh, by different directory, I mean within the lib files, ei, /lib/X11
or something like that. Thanks!

Umm, yeah, there's a few dirs it could be in...

/lib (the obvious one)
/usr/lib
/usr/share/lib
/usr/X11/lib

Why not just search for directories called lib then??

How many dirs do you think you'll find?

I didn't try for fear of getting answers (there are some things in
life I just don't need/want/should n't know)

Perhaps another question to ask then is, how do you do file searches in
linux? That would help WORLDS!

find [startdir] [-n name_pattern]
Without any parameters, it prints out _everything_ under the current
dir.
Use man - find has lots of other useful fetures.

Nice day!
