Hi there,

I'm having problems booting after compiling a new kernel for my Siemens
640 Box. The standard kernel delivered with Suse 6.3 works just fine.
But now i need to get VPN working and therefore need to recompile.
Afterwards i can't boot because of problems with the NCR support. Does
anyone hoe to include the right driver for bootup. I can't use initrd as
there are no tools for this in suse 6.3 ?

Please help,

Diederik

This is a little vague :o) Can you be more specific...

What kind of 8xx part is in this Siemens box? If it is indeed a
53c8xx part, you should be able to use the ncr53c8xx driver. I usually
just build it into the kernel and follow the standard build procedures.
You should not neet a ramdisk image for the later kernels - I never use
one and haven't had problems.

What kernel are you using? Which driver? The ncr53c8xx driver version
3.2d (I believe) that contained some extra code which caused the driver
to break. This bundled version was in some of the development kernels-
like 2.3.37. There is a patch in
ftp.lsil.com/HostAdapterDrivers/linux/bundled/2.3.37 ..

More information would be helpful.
