do this:
touch /var/lock/STATUS..LCK
Samba can't open the file beacuse it dosn't exist.

Also realize that you will always get this message unless for some
reason you ran smbclient beforehand (I sweated about this same thing for
way too long). I was told by someone else on this group that this is in
effect a "harmless error." RH just needs that file to process the
command.

When you run the same test again, hwwever, you will have to produce the same
file over and over again. STATUS..LCK is a temporary file that is
produced/required for the test. It looks as though smbclient sometimes
produces this file for you for troubleshooting. A lot of folks explained to me
here in this newsgroup that they consider it a "harmless error" since it does
not point to a problem with Samba's setup.
