Hi,
I have a problem.
While compiling samba-2.2.0 the compiler aborts
with the message :
WARNING: No automated network interface determination
ERROR: no seteuid method available
What does this mean?

Also realize that you will always get this message unless for some
reason you ran smbclient beforehand (I sweated about this same thing for
way too long). I was told by someone else on this group that this is in
effect a "harmless error." RH just needs that file to process the
command.

Cheers, Al.

I know the answer to this! (well I am surprised at least, since there is
very little that I do know about Samba). My reference for this is samba for
dummies page 39, where it says if your STATUS..LCK file does not exist you
can create it by using this string 'touch /var/opt/samba/locks/STATUS..LCK'.
Be careful, I am running rh7.0 and my samba files were in a slightly
different directory to this example, but I am sure you get the idea.

That's right, Richard, I have the same book.

When you run the same test again, hwwever, you will have to produce the same
file over and over again. STATUS..LCK is a temporary file that is
produced/required for the test. It looks as though smbclient sometimes
produces this file for you for troubleshooting. A lot of folks explained to me

here in this newsgroup that they consider it a "harmless error" since it does
not point to a problem with Samba's setup.

Al.
