I am running Samba4 version 4.2.12 as our office AD/DC. Two questions on domain member computers:

1) When I un-join a Windows 7 workstation from the domain (Start > Computer > Properties >
Advanced > Computer Name > Change > Member of: Workgroup), it does not remove that computer
from the list of domain computer. I have to either use samba-tool or (Windows)RAS Users and
Computers. It this normal? A bug? If the latter, is it fixed in a more current release of Samba?

2) If I have a dual-boot (Windows/Ubuntu) computer and I want to be a domain member booted
either way, do I need different computer names for each boot mode?

To answer number 1. Yes it's normal. It's working as intended.

OK, if you say so. I'll not worry about it. I could have sworn the old SBS2008 DC removed the computer.

I never used a SBS so don't know if it differs from a 2008 or 2012
server. I Assume they all work the same. When you remove the workstation
it should disable the workstation account. You can confirm by using RSAT
and seeing the disable icon attached to the removed workstation.

Too late now, but I'll pay attention next time. In fact, I'll have to take a machine off the
domain tomorrow. I'll look for the icon.

Does anyone have any feedback on my second question (probably should have made it a separate post)?

2) If I have a dual-boot (Windows/Ubuntu) computer and I want to be a domain member booted
either way, do I need different computer names for each boot mode?

Probably, you would need to join both to the domain and which ever you
tried to join second would probably complain that the computer already
existed, if they both had the same name.

So, I guess better to use different machine name depending on the boot mode, eh? No problem,
better safe than sorry!

James, yes, when I un-join a computer from the domain it shows with a little down-arrow on the
icon in RSAT Domain Computers and users. So, I'll just need to explicitly remove the computer eventually.
