Get pop problem

Hello,
I am using the standard email programs that come with redhat 6.1.
I
enabled pop3 in inetd.conf. Everything was working well, but all of a
sudden, checking email has become quite slow. I set the server in the
email
reader to the Internal IP of the mail machine. Like I said, when it was
first up, it was fast. Checked the email almost instantaneously. Now it
takes about 60 seconds to authorise each mail account as they are being
checked. I was just wondering if there is a known problem with the
standard
pop server, if there is anyone else having the sdame problem, and
hopefully,
a solution.

If you find something about that, please tell me ! I installed a pop server
last week, and I have the same problem. the pop server in outlook express is
setted to the IP of the linux machine, but it takes at least 10 secondes
before having an answer, even not in the internet, but directly in the LAN
containing the mail server ! it's not normal to take 10 seconds and more
only for that.
