Error when turning quotas on

I use RedHat 6.2 on a sparc64 architecture and when turning on quotas using
the quotaon command I get the following error:
* Failed to turn on quotas : quotaon: using /quota.group on /dev/hda3:
Invalid argument
What can it be? hda3 is the root partition and all settings in fstab seem to
be ok. Quotacheck also gives good results, about the group-quotas. Note that
I didn't set up user quotas.
